@binman can you also explain if there is a similar approach on how NBA use the load/usage of players in different positions? I believe they measure not only the % of play (i.e. minutes played vs minutes of game), but also the positions where they play those minutes (e.g. a player can be PG for part of the game and then a SF). Thanks.

The AFL should have (if they don't already) a board or commission that evaluates umpires. They can decide who is good enough for the big leagues and who should stay at VFL level.
