MCC or bust for me. Not going anywhere near general admission areas for this one. Showing my real MFC elitism here.

I’m doing the same, first time I’m not going in the AFL and choosing to go in the MCC for a Melbourne home and away game willingly in years.

AFL is a zoo against the Pies, as expected considering they are animals and barely human beings.

What time do we find out when the AFL reserve will be opened up to GA and what bays do they usually allocate for GA on the night?

From my understanding it happened in 2017 and 2023 when the GA areas in the Public reserve were full, usually just before the bounce.

The AFL reserve general Admission areas for tonight are:

    Q15 1/2-Q23 Rows U-DD

    Q24-Q28 Rows K-DD

They will basically let people sit anywhere in those AFL GA areas as long as its not yet full. But first have to exhaust the normal GA areas which I think are going to be extended to Q1-Q7 rows T-DD

All fair points, particular if the remainder of the ground is full.

It’s just a bit annoying that pre COVID they always had someone at the gate checking to see that nobody from the public would be sneaking into the AFL reserve and you basically had to beg and steal for your MCC mate to come into the reserve with you. Now any old “Joe” can help themselves into the reserve.

I’d also point out that guests are getting ripped off by paying double the price for a guest pass into the AFL reserve while some bloke who paid $28 GA is permitted  cross over into the AFL and get prime seats on the wing, on level 1, 2A or 4. That’s a post COVID loophole that should be looked at IMO.

So we always sit on 2A in the AFL, usually in P21 but if we are playing an interstate side or North/St Kilda we will sit in the unused medallion club P16-P20. I also have my Redlegs seats in P7 and since Covid i have been able to move in and out the AFL with no questions asked.

I get the need to maximise crowds but at the same time I’m not 100% onboard with the MCG opening up the AFL members to the public at GA prices, given AFL members pay for the privilege of prime seating.

I can remember pre COVID they wouldn’t allow you to sneak a mate into the AFL reserve to some random Melbourne V Freo game. Now anyone can sit in the reserve.

as an AFL member myself, I am completely fine with it if:

    • Level 1, 2 and 2a are not diluted
    • it is only opened up on the night if the rest of the ground is completely full
    • They make it clear to AFL members that this is going to happen and if members want to revolt, they can.
    • Its most likely a lot of Melbourne home/away access members are going to be the people that are let in
    • Remember the MCC gives up Q37-Q40 to the Public for pretty much all non-Melbourne games these days

What crowd are you predicting FTB?

    The MCC are predicting 78K.

im a little less, weather this morning will turn a few away as well. Reckon 70-75 sort of range. Very much depends on how empty the Richmond reserved areas are.

Thanks for the update. Never know what time to get there to try snap a Seat on Level 3 MCC. Mate bailed on me so will be a Nigel, he's a tigers fan so maybe i am better off alone?

For level 3 MCC I reckon you’ll be able to get a single seat an hour before the game easily.

  7. Updated expected GA areas for Wednesday:

    Ponsford: None

    Olympic: None

    Shane Warne: Q1-Q12 rows P-DD

AFL Reserve: Q15 1/2-Q22 rows U-DD, Q23-Q28 rows K-DD (Expect this to be opened up to public on the night)

MCC walk up areas: Usual level 1, 2 and 3 areas as well as as Q37-Q48 rows DD-MM (first time Anzac eve has had potential level 4 walkup in the MCC since 2017)

  8. Ticket sales in the public reserve are doing really well now. Ponsford level 4 looks like it will be all sold out well before the game on Wednesday.

MCC is a disaster, they sold out the available level 4 seats this morning, but because its the weekend they havent released any more and wont do so until Monday 8am. Wonder how many people are going to look to try reserve across the two day weekend in the lead up to the game. FWIW MCC level 4 is only around 65% sold.

I spoke to an MCC official after that game and was told that they had many complaints regarding the behaviour of supporters from a certain Club and it wasn't us!

What I witnessed from a group of their supporters harassing a young family that had the misfortune of sitting in the row in front of the standing room area, the attending MCC "Security" attempting to intervene and the subsequent non action from the two policemen standing in the aisle watching the "kerfuffle" nearly erupt between the father and the lunatics behind, leaves me with the same feeling as you Jaded. I will go (if only to boo Maynard) but my contempt for Collingwood fans can get no more extreme than it is now.

I hope that the Security is strengthened for that game because I know of a lot of MFC supporters who are on the edge and will lose it. I am indeed saving for the cost of my bail but at least I know that WCW will bake me a cake whilst I'm in the lock up (if she's not there with me)😁

My dad jumped the aisles after KB to attack three of them lipping off after they lost, had to give him a bear hug and drag him down or i was worried he'd be down for mass murder.

    What section Dt?

Level 4 Ponsford rows V-MM have gone on sale.

But since you refuse to sit on level 4, there is a solitary seat that has gone on sale in M35 on level 1 behind the goals where our cheersquad will be.

It's not looking bad weather wise OD. Top of 19.. Low of 11 and light winds.

Might head along with my AFL membership and brave GA in the AFL section assuming they've left a few bays

If you put your barcode in now, there are 2 single seats in P21 that just went on sale...

Richmond announced it was to be a fully ticketed game. The AFL and MCC weren’t having any of that and so now it’s been decided it’s not fully ticketed.

AFL and MCC are completely correct, this game has always relied on a massive GA turnout.

On a side note WCW, and I reckon this would annoy you too, I did notice that M33 rows U-Back were on sale as a dry bay from the the original onsale, meaning Richmond still wont give the Demon Army the whole bay. Seems like every other team we are away against lets us have the whole of M33 or M3 if its a Collingwood home game.

If some members like DC can’t go to a home replacement game because she can’t sit in her cosy reserved seat how is she ( or likeminded members) likely to rough it with the Tiger types in GA.

With great respect it’s more likely that our mob are missing in action than worrying about 10/15, 000 Tigs who may have dropped off.

dc is not a she.  dc does not have a reserved seat.

keep the comedy rolling, but "with great respect"

Look i dont like having pot shots at other Demonland members but i also cant stand the thought of not going to a game because the other team is too feral or we have to sit on level 4.

In the 2022 which was a Richmond home game there was a massive Melbourne turnout, probably the biggest of the year and it was our away game. It will be the same this year, the vast majority of public seats being sold will be Melbourne members that dont have access plus 95% of the MCC will be Melbourne.

Im expecting 35K of them, 30K of us and 5K neutrals.

Yep. Ticket sales aren’t nearly where they should be.

Really? It’s never been a fully ticketed game in the 8 years we’ve had it.

Last year was 83.9k and the general public sales were worse than they are this year. It’s the MCC that is looking like a disaster considering it’s a category 1 game.

Will still be around the 70k mark which is what queens birthday always was.

They say you can scan in with H & A membership on the night DAG, but it doesn’t say on the ticketek map where GA is allocated.

I posted those areas above, the mcg will formally name the ga areas the day before the game on their website

That cannot be. I bought 5 tickets to Q53 last night Row V. The only L4 Bay on the Olympic stand sold out was Q49 and Q50 i think. Everything from Q51 - Q57 still had at least 60-70% availability as far as i could see.

Nope, Q51 was sold out Monday night, Q52 was all gone by 11pm last night. I have an addiction problem and I check this every couple hours.

They do ramp up in the week of the game. For context, you bought row V in Q53 last night and they are now up to row FF.

GA tickets are still $27, but reserving a level 4 seat is not GA.

Thanks WCW, club sent another email an hour ago about upgrading again. Ticketek still showing exhausted for most of the allocations as per the screenshot above.  A bit of joke they would do that when the game is nowhere nearly sold out.

    That screenshot is correct though.
Level 1 is sold out and has been for a month. Now obviously Richmond reserved areas on level 1 are M50-M57, M1,M2 and M10-M16 but the other areas on level 1 are sold out.

level 2 and 2a are all reserved seat areas for Richmond so technically none are available.

Level 4 front, rows A-J (Q49-Q57) (Q8-Q15) is all sold out and has been for the last couple weeks. They have sold all of Q49-Q52 to the back and Q13-Q15 as well. Expecting Q53-Q57 to be all gone by the end of the week.

Ponsford level 4 is being sold up to U in all bays and that will likely be all they sell there.

the GA areas for Melbourne club members who have away access and all Richmond members are going to be something like:

    Olympic stand: None

    Ponsford: Q31-Q36 rows V-MM

Shane Warne: Q1-Q7 all rows, Q8-Q12 rows K-DD.

MCC sales on level 4 aren’t great this year. Up to Row DD in Q46-Q48, row AA for Q41-Q45 and row R Q37-Q40

AFL on par with last year and they ended up opening the last 10 rows of all bays to general admission, so would be expecting that again.

Strikes me as a very low 70s crowd.

  18. Nothing will be as good as the 2017 one where the navy faded into sky blue with the silhouettes of soldiers on the front and the lone soldier on the back, also worked well to avoid a clash with the Black jumper
