  1. The truth is that if not for the utter bungling incompetence of the Carlton Football Club on 5 occasions in the last 2 minutes then we lose that match. Melky outmarks 3 Carlton defenders, all taller than him. Newnes drops a simple uncontested mark when Viney over kicks it inside 50 Owies miskicks a 15m uncontested backwards pass to "Woof" and it bounces short Saad's kick down the line to a Carlton 3 on 1 doesn't result in a Carlton mark Hunt's kick back down the line to a Carlton 3 on 1 doesn't result in a Carlton mark and in fact it hits Young in the head Pickett goal!
  2. Can I give all 21 to Melky. He actually kicked 5 goals if the BB out of bounds wasn't called and he made the tackle on Silvagni at the death which should have been holding the ball, and was every time against us in the same part of the ground the week before. Should have been 6 goals including the sealer.
  3. Love her passion and feel her pain. That was me when Tuohy kicked that goal after the siren. Max delivered the antidote last year.
  4. Nice that the whole squad can travel to Queensland together.
  5. Isn't that exactly what you've done?
  6. I think Grundy will have other attractive suitors - Geelong and Port. If he moves it won't be a total firesale.
  7. McKay 7 marks (season average 5.8), 4 contested marks (season average 2.2) and 3 goals (season average 2.4) was in danger of getting away from May. The over the top goal was definitely May's fault, he's the goalkeeper, how does his man get 25 metres goalside of him? The thing about Curnow - he IS brilliant and often makes those plays. The luck was on our side. IMO a better match up would have been the reverse of what we went for.
  8. McKay and Curnow are great players and we did a decent job of curbing their influence - I think we were fortunate that Curnow finished with 1.4. I just wonder if we could have improved the match-up - I think Petty on McKay and May on Curnow is possibly a more effective combination that plays to our strengths. Petty has the reach to go with McKay and May has the strength and mobility to go with Curnow.
  9. It's 3 on 3 at the centre bounce, their 3 was usually Cripps, Walsh and Docherty or some combination - they can play.
  10. What are horrible set to choose from. The only good part is one of them will miss.
  11. Ben Brown was fine for the way we went forward. Tirelessly created an aerial contest, always outnumbered and often had to make enormous ground to get to the contest.
  12. Jayden was enormous in those last two minutes @Lucifers Hero! Driving the ball forward.
  13. It's probably our colours, understandably they all want to go to Hawthorn and Gold Coast.
  14. The whole point of my post is that Cripps' "intention" is not the issue. That wasn't in the charge. FWIW, for similar reasons Hawkins should have been suspended for "carelessly" breaking May's jaw. But there's one rule for stars and another for ANB and Chandler.
  15. Wow that is some major corruption and hypocrisy by the AFL. The description of Cripp's action in the charge was "careless", not "intentional". Cripps did jump in the air at a non-marking contest and carelessly bump Ah Chee in the head causing concussion.
  16. Not really surprised. The FD has thrown the gauntlet down and said "just get it done!" Expect changes next week if they can't.
  17. Maybe the FD have researched and understood that well north of $1M by 7 years and 2 early 1st rounders for a King brother or McKay is just not feasible and we need to make our bed some other way - $700k and a 2nd rounder for Grundy could be astute business.
  18. One premiership ruckman in your list.
  19. Luke Jackson is getting talked down a fair bit and not surprising because he's leaving and that hurts. The work he does with ground balls is totally amazing for someone who can also ruck and mark capably. He's only 20, he'll be unstoppable when he fully matures. I can fully understand Freo's big interest.
  20. I'm keen to see your list of these players.
  21. Brayden Maynard career highlight:
  22. Demonland: ANB's pressure acts aren't worth a cracker, drop him! MFC are 17th for pressure acts - the sky is falling!
  23. Contrary to popular belief I don’t think we've got a scoring problem. We did have an accuracy problem last week. We lost last week because Collingwood kicked too many goals. We restricted their i50 entries well but the scored too easily and too accurately.
  24. Selection will be very interesting this week. Will we stick with the same structure - one tall forward plus Melky as a defensive mid size, Angus in the middle rather than back; and if we do, will we stick with the same personnel to execute it? I think we've been exposed by 3rd talls forwards against the Dogs' JUH 5.0 and the Pies' Ash Johnson 4.0. We've held their key forwards well but the 3rd tall has gotten away and kicked very accurately. This is somehow related to Jake Lever's role. We're lacking composure when the ball hits the ground inside forward 50 and Jamie Elliott took full advantage. We did defend the small playmakers well - Elliott's goals were not the result of making the play and Ginnivan was not a factor. The balance is not quite right though. We do need to change things up from last year and we now have a strategy to handball through traffic, if we want to play that way then inevitably, because of his role, ANB is going to get involved in a lot of chains. He's the anti-Clarrie in that sense, he will always be tackled without getting a clean disposal. That does usually results in a stoppage which is not a disaster, but I'm sure that's not the intent. In high pressure games Alex is an asset with his pressure and a liability with the ball - we need to address this. I think Goodwin is generally conservative, but he was definitely unhappy on Friday night.
