We should throw a small fortune at Cameron Ling.

The only way to break the cycle is to recruit people in all areas who have experienced success (nothing short of a Premiership counts as success). Neeld (a product of success at Collingwood) knows this and will be actively trying to pick up mature age players from successful environments this year.

The thing that worries me about Watts is that he actually does have elite physical attributes, but he doesn't use them. He could not gain another ounce of muscle for the rest of his career, but still be a great of the game with the physical tools he has right now. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem like it will happen. "Jack Watts marks strongly out in front on a lead" is a sentence we should hear ten times a week. I've never heard it once in his entire playing days. Great endurance, tall, good hands and super quick. He is all of those things, but doesn't put them to use.

How come he dislikes Daniher?

What about that bloke who tripped Sellar after he had taken the mark which prevented him from running into an open goal. Clear fifty. I reckon we lost about 4-6 goals (all in the early part of the game, which is significant) due to atrocious umpire decisions/non-decisions.

POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?
Chook replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
You're relying on an Age poll for evidence? Even you know more about footy than the kind of people who would vote on an online Player of the Week poll. -

"The way they moved and the way that they played the game, you certainly think, are we seeing the superpower of the future?" - Michael Voss after Melbourne's demolition of Sydney in Round 17, 2010Let's just let things play out without making silly predictions and exaggerations, huh? -
You have a good record. And believe it or not, if Dustin Fletcher plays another five years without a suspension, he will have a good record as well.

POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?
Chook replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Range Rover, the last time you started a NicNat thread (something absurd like Naitainui will be the greatest player in history), the kid came out the very next week and barely got a touch. So why don't you give it a rest with starting new threads? -
This is the perfect post. Everyone who considers themselves a reasonable person should pin a poster of this to their wall and refer to it any time they find themselves arguing with someone whose passion has gotten in the way of logic.

POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?
Chook replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is really a question of "would I prefer Jack Watts at Melbourne and Nick Naitanui at West Coast OR Jack Watts at West Coast and Nick Naitanui at Fremantle/West Coast." The FACT is that there is no doubt Nick Naitanui would have split back home the first chance he got. Jack Watts was our only option, and he is a damn fine footballer anyway. -
Lots of people like McDonald's, but that doesn't mean it's good for you.

You missed The Complete Omnibus of Unreasonable Gripes (Range Rover, Why You Little, et al)

Great answer.

Clearly I think his first two seasons were better than you do.

You're not telling us anything we don't know. All you're doing is being pessimistic. It is highly unusual (ie impossible) for a healthy 20 year old man to become drastically slower in the space of one year. Therefore, while I don't know that he's injured or under a heavy workload, these are the two most likely answers. Also, what number draft pick he is means as little to his speed as whether or not he's captain (which you so rightly pointed out).

???Are you kidding me? He's as fast as Lewis Jetta, his kicking is fine for a full-back, his decision making is good as long as he doesn't try to bite off more than he can chew, and I can't remember the last time he got smothered, outside that one mistake yesterday. Frawley's problem is that he gives his direct opponent too much latitude, and in his attempt to make up the ground, he often gives away free kicks or forces lesser defenders into mismatches. Jack Watts was forced to take Frawley's opponent a couple of times yesterday because Frawley was off on his own trying to be Andrew McLeod.

I went every week for the first four years of us being out of the 8 ('07 to '10). I'll start going again when we look like winning a majority of our games. Once we dip back down again, I'll probably keep going for a few more years. But I have better things to do with my life than freeze my nuts off for no reason every weekend. There was a time when I'd do anything to shift my responsibilities and go to the game. But that time has passed, at least for now.

Someone with a keen interest in watching Melbourne play footy. Being at the ground is not my highest priority, and I don't care who knows it.
-
So tell me, Professor, why has he become so slow so quickly?
-
Then you can count yourself as a die-hard supporter.
-
Once our players decide they want to start winning games, maybe they'll get a few more people through the gates. Until then, they deserve to play in front of whatever die-hard supporters are willing to sit through the garbage they dish up every week.
-
Stop feeding him the broken hearts of Melbourne supporters.

Frawley's problem is he's developed a big head. Unless he's just following instructions, he runs off his man way too much. He needs to remember that he's a defender first and a rebounder second.
