  1. I was pretty Prendaghast at my prediction that "Brock McLean will win a Brownlow one day."
  2. Although I will always wonder what his role was in the Cam Schwab / Dean Bailey / 186 debacle, Jared Rivers was one of about four or five players who I would have given a legitimate pass mark to this year. Good luck at Geelong, Riv. Showing disgruntled senior Melbourne players how it's done since 2012.
  3. I really like this kid. I hope he gets a good run at it next year.
  4. Not to mention Jack Grimes, who likely will be our sole captain (with 5 years under his belt in the role) by that time.
  5. Rule three actually promotes skilful ruck-work rather than simply "arms around the better ruckman to stop any effective tap." Better ruckmen will benefit from this rule, IMO. Jamar is one thing and one thing only - a good ruckman, so I like any rule that stops the bit-players from tying him up before the ball has even been bounced thrown up.
  6. Greg Broughton is the archetypal "Moneyball" player. Low on value, unwanted by his coach, could fill an important niche for us, and would therefore provide more for the money we pay him than most other players. That last part is key. although we need Kurt Tippet, he would not be a Moneyball recruitment because his asking price is too high. Broughton would be perfect though, and I'd be surprised if we weren't looking at some way of picking him up.
  7. Liam Jurrah walked out on the club mid-year. He doesn't deserve a review, IMO.
  8. Played one of the worst games I've ever seen a Melbourne player play against Port Adelaide in Darwin. Garland's got some great attributes, but he is also prone to silly mistakes. He's got the "kick off one step," casual approach to footy that I imagine thousands of weekend warriors all around Australia also have. He needs to get that crap out of his game. If not, it's going to be a long three years for me watching him play.
  9. Thanks for your years of great service for the MFC. I didn't value what you brought to the table, but you brought it anyway. That's more than any of us here will ever do. Good luck at the Lions.
  10. That would be moronic. Dawes really is not worth anywhere near that much.
  11. Wow. I'd be pretty disappointed in the AFL system if a player can just walk out on his club and go straight to the club of his choosing without any compensation, warning or fair trade.
  12. Well that just shows that different people respond to different things. I find him extremely clear-thinking and highly motivating.
  13. "Crack in and have a crack." Similar to "buy in," it's one of the new Melbourne catch phrases. Either one on its own would be fine, but both at once is a bit too much.
  14. Nephew of Dale Gribble? Cousin of Joseph Gribble?
  15. "Team XYZ is making a play for Joe Blow" "So and so clunked that mark" "You just get the feeling that . . . don't you." "Wah wah wah HD, wah wah wah Vlad, blady-blah Scully."
  16. Hey, I'm just giving the kids what they want.
  17. That was actually a goal. Too bad the third umpire left his courage in the carpark (to coin a phrase).
  18. Who is he? The estranged brother to Tom Riddle, perhaps? Wasn't he a quidditch convert originally? At any rate, he could bring some real magic to the forward-line.
  19. Whenever I've watched Aaron Edwards play for the Roos, I've wondered why he doesn't get more opportunity. He's one of the best set shots in the competition, is a great mark and can rotate through the midfield. I reckon the Dees should sound him out. Thoughts?
  20. Wow! I've never heard someone make trade week sound so delicious.
  21. I think people will be a little bit surprised by Colin Sylvia next year. I got the feeling that in the latter parts of this year, he really bought in to what the coaches were telling him. And as another poster has pointed out, perhaps the less than stellar reception Brent Moloney has received from other clubs has shown Sylvia that Beamer's way is not the right way.
