    But how will that happen?

Emotional ties only go so far. How many Players will leave at years end?

How can they attract Big Name Players?

    The Spiral has begun….

Same issue with the Lions 10 years ago, as you may recall. They turned it around as any organisation turns itself around.
It's not a simple fix but it's not a fait accompli that a club doing poorly now will never recover.

  2. My bugbear with the umpiring is these little tiggy-touchwood frees for things that don't affect the game (the stand rule is the worst offender here). Who cares whether McKay was on the mark and swapped with another player with no one in cooee for McKay to potentially prevent taking the play-on handpass? Umpires should be given license to not pay frees where there wouldn't be a material impact on the flow of the ball.

send essendon and collingwood and carlton (who play away to geelong tomorrow.... at the MCG) to geelong. thats the solution.

That makes no sense. How do we stop Collingwood and Essendon from playing at Kardinia Park by making them play at Kardinia Park?

Do you even hear yourself? You’re talking crazy.

This is our 5th HOME regular season game v geelong since 2009.

How else do you expect to give Geelong the required number of home games at Kardinia park while also ensuring Collingwood and Essendon never play there? If you've got any ideas, please send them to AFL house because they clearly need them.

A very interesting watch here. Petty's individual performance has not been anything at all up to standard, but at the same time he is very important for structure, and as JVR said in his interview with Stafford, Petty is someone who uplifts the whole team and improves cohesion.

He does look down on confidence and i wouldn't be surprised if the trade issues were affecting him as well. An interrupted pre season does not help either - i think we should stick by him and re-assess after our next block of games vs Geelong/Carlton.

I have a feeling patience will be rewarded in the near future.

I just reckon he's completely unfit, like "not AFL standard" levels of unfit. You could visit any random farm in SA and find 3 brothers as fit as Petty, which actually makes sense once you think of it and remember his injury history. I suspect he won't have a long career in the game unless he undergoes a serious turnaround in this area.

  6. Whatever happened with Essendon having the wrong players on the bench to prevent play from getting underway should be a free kick against to start the quarter. You can't be delaying the game by over a minute with no penalty.

May and Lever have been best on for mine, not playing on much of a forward line but kept us in it in the first half. Disco kicking 3 has been the difference. Langdon solid and Windsor came into it in the 3rd. Koz makes a massive difference to the forward line.

Petty can’t move, I think they’re hoping to run him into form but I think he needs to go behind the ball until he gets fitness and touch back. Billings needs the mids to be feeding him or he’s useless and he’s pretty hungry at the moment.

He needs a mini-preseason, like Ben Brown did in 2021. He needs to not play AFL or VFL for about 6-8 weeks and just get super-fit. Come back in late in the year and play full-forward from there on in.

Worked once, why not try it again.

  8. Great goal Windsor. I thought they changed the ruling on balls that hit the umpire, where if the ball was going to go through for a goal it would be a goal, but otherwise no change in the rules (the ball hitting the umpire is an act of god - play on).

  9. Love to see Turner kick a couple of snags. Which defender will we throw up forward next? McDonald was good for several years and a flag, so he's the club house leader. Petty was more sizzle than sausage, but was good for a novelty. I'd like to see Maysy have a go. He'd probably kill someone though if sent forward.

Assume it is blowing a gale! Only reason i can think that you miss 15 metre kicks!

Well I'm no expert but usually when I miss kicks it's because of a lack of skill. I'm an amateur though so take the lack of skill as a given.
