If JVR wasn't already a MFC cult legend, he's definitely that now.  Need to feed thIs guy the ball at every opportunity and help him to kick a bag of 5+ goals on the weekend.  Would be the best reward for the week he's just had.

Very proud of the club for not rolling over and taking in on the chin like the AFL wanted.

Would not mind seeing Woewodin playing the small forward role today for a half or so to see how he goes.

Similarly play Laurie on the HBF for a while.

IMO fringe players are wise to develop in say two positions to maximise their chances of a senior game.

I wonder where we will see Joel S play today? Is he the Lever understudy or the secret weapon forward ?

Joel would make the perfect sub can play forward/back.

Agree that Joel is a chance if his form remains strong and he stays healthy. He is a bit frustrating because he certainly does have ability and "could" be quite dangerous as a forward if he can stay fit and focused. I thought his kicking for goal was surprisingly good last game also. Presumably he is also benefitting from Chocko's tuition in that space this season.

If he has sustained form, he'd be a great 3rd/4th forward or swingman down back or the ideal sub

The new AFL CEO in waiting Andrew Dillon was asked about whether he thought a 20th AFL licence was now inevitable once Tasmania was admitted to the competition. His response was that the AFL had, in the past, fielded an odd number of teams so he wouldn’t be drawn into a definitive position on AFL Team 20.

I personally believe that the 20th Team will happen simply because of the additional revenue that a 10th game in every round will bring.

But from where will AFL Team 20 come?

The Northern Territory, Canberra, perhaps another team from Perth or Adelaide or one of the regional centres of WA or SA?

Great seeing Petty provide a contest, but he understandably has little forward craft or a set shot routine. Can't wait to see Ben Brown back out there alongside JVR

What Petty gives us that Brown doesn't is second efforts and strength in the contests.

Had no idea at the game what this 50 was for.

apparently, there is a protected area behind the man on the mark, which Lever enters to give away the 50.

So, is it like running between the mark, a Richmond player could have entered the restricted area behind the man on the mark?

Dumb rule how does it disadvantage the kicker.

What did you guys think of the umpiring?

Had me shaking my head, thought Richmond got the benefit of the doubt every time two examples out of many were taking the ball off Fritsch when he could've had a goal and Rioli not being penalised for a 50m in the centre of the ground and them getting a goal as a result. In other words the umpires had yellow and black bias. Also why does Martin always get more time to dispose of the ball.

    Yes!

At this stage bottom 4 appear to be:  North, Eagles, Hawks and GCS.  North and Eagles both traded down last year.  GCS might have an Academy player in the top 5 so may want to ditch their first pick.  GWS hold their own and Richmond's first pick.  At this stage both look like being top 10 picks.  GCS and GWS have shown willingness to be flexible in trading top picks.

Plenty of scope to package our available 3 first round and 3 second round picks.

Too many machinations to guess how we might get to a player we want.

    I thought we have 2xround 1s & 2xround 2s!

Melbourne want to keep him and would sign him up tomorrow if they could but JJ (understandably) is holding off talks while his position in the team is still not certain. He doesn’t want to keep playing at Casey or as the sun and knows if he went elsewhere he’d get games week in week out. He has plenty of interest. He doesn’t want to leave, but he wants to play footy. Kade Chandler is in the same position. Plenty of interest, and just holding off to know his place in the team won’t get knocked off once all our big names return. The club want them both to stay. But they also wanted Bedford to stay last year by offering him a 3 year contract. Interesting position to be in.

I reckon Bedford and Chandler were fighting for the same position.

    Choose another sub. Not Melksham

The sub needs to be someone like a Smith who can play on a tall/short. Melksham whilst a great kick, doesn't get involved enough. He's the icing on the cake type of player. He plays okay when we are on top, but not so much when we aren't switched on. I was hoping that either JVR/Smith would've be given the vest last night as I wasn't confident Tom would play well and with Fritter playing first game back. The only positive is that Melks is 2 games closer to getting 100 games with us. I reckon he'll get there, but I'd be selecting a different sub for the Syd game.

Certainly worked his way into the game as the solo ruck and credit to him. Needs to build some synergy with Trac and Clarry if we’re to win the centre clearances going forward.

He’s going to earn his money this year if Gawn’s out for weeks, but he’d love having the number 1 mantle to himself.

Shrewd recruiting by us. Imagine how we'd be without Grundy now that Max is out

naughton is the best tall forward in the competition imo - his reading of the play and ability to take pack marks is second to none

fortunately, he's not the greatest kick in the world

our tall triumvirate of lever, petty, tomlinson worked very well together

I'd love him at Melb, Choco could teach him to kick.

Barassi left before I was born, so I won't include players I never saw.  From what I've heard it would be hard to go past Stuart Spencer, Barassi, and Mueller from year's gone by.

    My 5 favourite players:

Flower, Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney (experienced the worst of it)

My weighting is very much based on premiership players.  I never thought I'd see one, so these guys are my favourite.  It's a very easy decision for me over non premiership players.  But if you saw Robbie you couldn't leave him out.

The 5 best Melbourne players I've seen:

Flower, Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, May (not in order)

It's some feat for a non-premiership player to be included, but if you saw Robbie...

Flower, Schwarz, Gawn, Petracca and Oliver
