Having said that curse us for having to rely on any other teams but also [censored] the Eagles for not beating the Dogs the other week.

but they did beat the saints with half a team so i think they redeemed themselves somewhat.

Let's say the Dogs win and we lose, the Giants need to win by about 10 goals to overtake St. Kilda and make the finals.

Bare with my thinking here. In my book that helps our case of making finals. It gives the Giants incentive to go out and smash the Saints helping us out with our percentage gap on the Saints.

All we need to do then is [censored] win.

True but they have to start making inroads early otherwise they might become demoralised. You’d think they will need a 2 goal lead at 1/4 time and at least 4 by halftime.

I've read it and I've wept.

I can forgive them for the Freo game, but there was absolutely no reason in the world why we should've lost to Sydney. They are such an ordinary side, a side that kicked 2 goals in a game of footy a few weeks back.

I agree. Freo’s form is holding up well. They’ll give the dogs a real game this weekend. I’m confident of that and won’t be surprised if they win.

Sydney was our worst result of the year. A shocker. The Swans didn’t even have to play all that well.  Extra man in defense playing into the breeze. With the wind ensure kicks inside 50 to the forwards advantage. Kick straight. Simple formula.

Don't know specifically, but you'd think they would have at least opened up the discussions and/or offers. From what I've heard via both rumour and reasonably 'in the know' people; there's a bit of a cultural disconnect with Jack and some of the younger players. He's everything we think from the outside: hard worker, demanding, serious, but he's not a great communicator or what you'd call a 'people person' so the dynamic just isn't quite working in that way. I think we need that kind of mentality at our club personally, bit like Michael Jordan if you've watched 'The Last Dance', but I'm not sure who it's up to to make it work properly.

I'm torn about him leaving. I can see how it potentially helps the midfield mix. I can also see how it might help our skills in the middle (I've been highly critical of his delivery inside 50 in the past), but we're also a club that struggles in a big way with consistency of effort and 'ruthlessness' which are both things I think Viney brings.

Nothing wrong with Viney setting standards and demanding others do the same. That’s leadership in my mind. The problem is his skill deficiencies and other flaws in game. He’s got to back up the demands on others with consistent performances otherwise team mates won’t listen. Why should they when his performances fall short? His value can’t be based on effort alone.

I like Viney. If he’s on our list next year I won’t be upset. But his contract must be proportionate with his capabilities. Fundamentally I don’t think his performances are good enough based on the expectations I have of him as a player.

Together with my colleagues of the cloth, I have arranged an interdenominational day of prayer in Brisbane commencing with a dawn service in the city, followed by a march to Woolloongabba where we will circle the cricket ground and offer prayers for the health and welfare of the Gold Coast Suns as they undertake their mission to beat Collingwood. If successful, there will be further services next week targeting St Kilda, Essendon, Footscray with a repeat of tomorrow’s event on Monday week. Amen.

Don;'t forget Melbourne. We need prayers more than anyone.

  6. A lot of people doing it tough and I note the comments here about small businesses in particular.

I know plenty who've been stuck inside and its starting to really grate. Mental health is a big issue that doesn’t get mentioned often enough. Hopefully by GF weekend restrictions will be relaxed a little so families can visit each other again, friends can have 1 or 2 visitors over. I’m all for it for those reasons.

My dad's birthday is on St Patrick's Day and his two brothers have theirs on St David's and St Andrew's Day. My brother beats them all though. He was born on 24 May 1972. The day Glasgow Rangers won the European Cup Winners Cup at the Nou Camp in Barcelona against Dynamo Moscow, 3-2. ❤️

Do you have any relatives with a birthday on 24 October by any chance?

I do hope Jetta returns to his old form.

He has been an incredible player and maybe still will be.

he's been a super player. Tough little bugger. Great hands. He's not been the same since that knee injury last year. Pains me to say but i don't think he'll get back to his best.

We need to attack through the centre more with runners each side of the target.

We need to attack through the centre more in general if we are playing to win.

The problem is Biff when we do try that we cough it up. Skills let us down.

I was heartened to see Kozzie start a chain of handballs from half back which led to Spargo's first qtr goal. More of that please.

If we do it a few times then switch it up to the other side in a planned move to have say, Hunt, Bakker, Langdon on that side alone and to kick it past them and let them run onto it, not many catch them if it gets out the back.

It's way too predictable at this stage. I'd add Weids or Brown to your suggestions as well?

  11. It’s been said elsewhere but GWS and ST Kilda playing before us next week is huge. GWS will have to put it all on the line and if they play like they did last night then I think they win. But it’ll be tight.

I’ve just watched the highlights from the Port and Essendon game. The bombers are an absolute rabble. They’ve checked out. If we bring the same attitude and intensity as last night then we can win by 6 goals I reckon.

I imbibed a little too much wine last night so the head is in no shape to work through the permutations but a GWS win together with us making up enough percentage gets us into the 8 no matter what the bulldogs do. Is that right?

    Well done Wise

You a few others saw the talent in Rivers after his first gsme for us.

He is going to take over Jettas role nicely.

    A tough gig to do.

Although perhaps he should play up forward.

More likely Hibberd, Lockhart (if he's ever allowed out of the doghouse) will take Jetta's spot.

You mean like pushing Watts and Hogan out the door and playing Frawley forward after letting him explore his options, ensuring we could train up a new key back and still get maximum compensation, which led to Brayshaw's pick?

We've shown plenty of ruthlessness. There's a difference between being ruthless and careless with knee-jerk decision making.

Further, Zac Williams is a FA, we don't need to trade for him...

I’m not about knee jerk reactions. Absolutely the pros and cons need to be weighed up and properly considered.

It’s more the heart and soul arguments I take issue with.

You’re correct about Williams. Thanks for putting be right there.
