I understand this point but I think it's a little unfair to suggest he can play all his footy in the middle.

Who's minutes are you shaving to get him in there? Clarry, Trac or Viney?

It's a good point, but Tracc can play very well in the forward line and viney can go onto the wing.

Angus plays his best footy in the midfield and that last half (particularly the last quarter) shows that.

He's an asset to the team when he's in the middle and possibly shaving some minutes off others can actually be more beneficial if you've got two players contributing in seperate positions.

also, sparrow had a bit of time in the middle, didn't see anyone winging about him taking off others minutes while he was in there.

  2. Who would have guessed that playing a midfielder (angus) in the midfield would actually allow him to play well!

People need to cool their jets on angus at least for the moment, he showed glimpses of his 2018 self tonight.

Clarry sensational and Lukey Jackson looks like the beginning of a star.

I'll be wearing the dees jumper on the zoom meeting tomorrow!

    Go dees!

  3. One thing that is completely infuriating and something i can't understand is why we have the best tap ruckman in the comp who always wins the hitouts and hitouts to advantage and yet still we get murdered in the clearances. I just dont understand.

I'm not sure i can watch next week. I love this club so much that seeing them go this badly actually hurts me in my heart. Everyone else on here that's hurting wouldn't be angry if they didn't actually love the club. If we didn't care, no one would post in this thread. I just so badly want them to go well but they just aren't going well. This really hurts because i love the dees so much.

  4. Port Adelaide fans [censored] me off so much (bar richmond fans, they are easily my second most hated fan base), and as for the umpires, fmd. lopsised free kick count as usual with no consistency.

I'll stay away from the negatives because i'd be writing an essay, but lets acknowledge the ripper efforts. Jay Lockhart was [censored] monumental, he didn't stop trying he just didnt, hibbo was immense and put himself on the line as usual. Steve May absolutely shut down dixon which is a great effort on his part. Sparrow tried really hard and viney put it all on the line. Not sure what i could say about the others. I know he'll get crucified by other demonlanders on here but oscar wasn't bad either, he was far from our worst.

    Heads up, onto next week.

  5. One thing i worry about is that if we play three talls in the forward line, if all go up in a contest, we won't have many left to crum it on the ground, but in saying that, kossi can be unbelievable in those situations, so shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe fritta will play more as a small today.

Sparrow seems to be a like for like replacement for Nev, looking forward to seeing him play. Jordan very stiff not to get picked, i reckon. Kade Chandler was another who could have gotten the nod for nev's spot. The depth we have at the moment is quite extraordinary.

What isn't very clear is what his new role is.  Sometimes he is on the wing, sometimes in the middle.  If only playing 65% game time and being moved around he has little chance to settle into any role.

I agree about giving Petracca a chop out.  He played 95%, a huge workload all credit to him for lifting the team in the last qtr.

Game time for mids and wings: Jones (81%), Oliver (88%), Langdon (90%) and Viney (82%.

Harmes could have done a shutdown job on any of the midfielders or wingmen.  Both he and Brayshaw could have relieved any of those mids/wings.

Interestingly,  like Brayshaw, Harmes also played 65% (his game time has been trending down for 4-5 weeks).  Given that we have a game in a few days one would think the coaches would have spread the work load a bit more.

Something odd is happening with which players get game time and which don't.  All a bit of a mystery.

It's a great point LH, i was deliberately vague in my first post because like you, i've got no idea what his role actually is.

the sooner that becomes clearer will hopefully be when we notice an improvement in gus's game.

As for Harmesy i totally agree, the sooner he gets back to being a full time tagger, the better not just for team but for him as an individual.

  7. Gus isn't going well, but there is an obvious reason why.

quite simply, he is being played out of position. He plays his best footy in the engine room and instead he's floating up and down the wing, and across half-back.

if you play maxy at full forward he's not going to get many hit outs. If your'e not starting gus in the centre then hes not going to get his hands on the pill as much. If you switched it around and put clarry on the wing/half back then he will underperform as well.

The argument could be made that he should adapt to his new role, and i would agree that probably yes he should.

however, don't be so quick to absolutely destroy him because i think it'll take time for him to be damaging in his new role.

i also think that he could give tracc a chop out in the middle allowing tracc to go forward and hit the scoreboard.

If Harmes isn't holding on to a jumpers and giving away a free, he's then trying to break tackles and gets pinged for it.

    Dead set so predictable.

When Harmes is at his best, he breaks those tackles and has a real impact usually as a tagger.

i'd love for him to get back to that form, but in the meantime i would agree to drop him maybe for rivers, possibly bedford.

you also know harmes is at his best when he's going forward and hitting the scoreboard, i hope for the sake of our team he can get back to this but he's pretty far off at the moment.

He stuffed around with it to make sure we could get set up behind the ball, but yes, he went a step too far and it hurt us in that situation.

If they’re gonna call that one against Fritsch then pay the four previous ones where Brisbane held it up, they have gotta be consistent.

fritsch did nothing wrong, all players are told to hold it up as much as possible. The ump just decided to be a bit whistle happy.

  10. That score review totally killed our momentum and the 50 was completely stupid on the part of that biased, corrupt individual.

It wasn’t two isolated incidents either, it was a shocking effort all night by the umpires for both teams. It’s getting to a point where there is too much interpretation and stuff changing week to week. notice as well how every Brisbane player looks for a free kick at every stoppage, literally they turn to the umpires to ask the question every time.

    Tonight cut really deep.

Sorry LH, but you're wrong on this. The reason why Neale is having the year that he is, is because he's hitting the scoreboard. This year alone in 7 games he's played, he's kicked 8.9. His match against Adelaide he kicked 6 behinds. That tells me he's added another element to his game and hence why right now he's too 3 player in the competition.

The only midfielder for us who's come close to those numbers is Petracca with 6 goals.

In fact for a guy that supposedly doesn't kick enough goals, in his 166 career games he's still kicked 87 goals. That's still a lot better then what our midfielders are dishing up.

This is what's stopping the likes of Viney, Brayshaw and Oliver from truly becoming elite mids of the competition. They barely hurt the scoreboard.

Yes, this is a very important point. even if two of these three could be damaging up forward then we'd be a lot better off.

From memory, Brayshaw in 2018 was quite damaging in terms of hitting the scoreboard and i think he could be able to get back to that but quite possibly the role he is being asked to play isnt one that lends itself to kicking 2 or 3 goals a game.

as for oliver, i'm not sure i can see him ever consistently hitting the scoreboard, it just doesn't seem to come naturally to him. Everytime he is front of goal, he panics and sprays it completely, for me i'm just not sure he will ever get to that "stage" in his career but quite frankly i'm not too fussed about that. His ability to just go and get his own footy is astounding and extremely important for our team.

As i said, i think if viney and Brayshaw can go forward with more efficacy than we can let oliver do his thing.

  14. I probably should open up a seperate thread for this but why is harmes no longer being used as a tagger or is he and i just haven't noticed.

i think we could all agree that he plays his best footy as a tagger and certainly not across the half back flank.

I would love to see him shut down Neale on sunday, and simply tag the shït out of him.

as for the team, i would think that one of jonesy or tomlinson comes in for vanders.

  15. He is our barometer. If he's playing well, then you can just about bet that the team is up and about.

He brings a physicality that just isn't matched by anyone else on the team, his importance can not be understated.

Vandenberg's run down crunching tackle on murdoch in the 1st quarter of the elim final 2018 says it all, he is simply a beast who won't give up.

    We all love the Vandemonberg!

    Tassie again ya joking

We always get stitched up with 100km gusts as well, fair dinkum, and coming off a three/four day break.

Arguably, north do play that ground better than any other team so its not an amazing result fixture wise for us. Would have loved to get them anywhere else but i guess the boys will just make it work for them.

  17. I'd actually like to see T'mac get some form and confidence in a scratch match or two before returning, and Jackson didn't do anything to lose his spot either in fact I think at the moment, he provides more than t'mac.

I'm not sure whether I give the benefit of the doubt to Lockhart or not, I'd like to see Jonesy come back into the team but I'm just not that sure. Rivers is also a possibility but again i think in a winning team, Lockhart gets the benefit of the doubt for another week.

all in all then, no changes for me.
