  1. Good start by the women. Great that Daisy Pearce is playing in the forward line. Not converting enough given our domination of inside 50's. St. Kilda has no inside 50's First quarter 2. 2. 14 to 0. 0. 0 Playing well: Zanker, Gay, Pearce, Mcnamara, Hanks
  2. Would like to see us hammer some of the bottom teams by 15 or about goals. It would show we are working towards being ruthless. In the past, a 4 goal lead by Melbourne was not a guarantee for a win. They can sometimes give the opposition a look in. Hoping that changes and we have no more fade outs or switch offs.
  3. You are right about our reactions to turnovers. They are going to happen. If we can limit the scoreboard pain when it happens. Good teams can do it. Gut running, pressure, picking up your man, slow the ball down, get it back. The ball does come out of our forward line a bit easy sometimes. Do need more goals from stoppages in the 50. Elite ruck, rove combination can only help. Max is a force we should use in there. Scoring is more important than getting re-entries.
  4. Don't we need them. Hoping to go deep into the finals this season, become successful and getting them satisfaction. Only way way to guarantee their signatures, as salary caps and us buying others may restrict us paying their full price.
  5. I want some mongrel in our team. Other teams and their supporters see us as easy. Its great when we are up and running. The opposition supporters get agitated. They get nasty as do their players. The opposition will try and rough us up. We should start giving it back. We've had too many years of "taking it". Time to get some pride and believe. Unpredictability, together with good skill execution is hard to defend against. Coast to coast creates confidence and hurts the opposition. As does breaking the lines.
  6. Without the runner to pass on coaches messages, it really is up to the on-field leaders to straighten the ship. They need to assess the situation, have a plan, communicate and lead by example. Not so easy, but they have to try something and not just let the opposition roll over us. The plan would have to include tempo control. Push our lines deeper or more shallow. Set a tagger on a hot player. Support, encourage and instruct team-mates. Get the ball. Score goals. Some individual brilliance would also work. Post game accountability is good but they should act as soon as the rots starts.
  7. I agree, we need to be able to hit up leads, kick to advantage and change up the angles when attacking. Too many times we kick it to the oppositions sweeper or intercept player. The teams like Westcoast and Tigers must lick their lips when playing against us.
  8. Some of their turnovers came when they had time to think and steady. Turnovers when under pressure are understandable, Bad skill execution and brain fades are not. Those unable to perform should be consistently kicking and handballing everyday of the week.
  9. I really hope Goody has been working on the oppositions game. We can't just be about our brand! He has to able to do something to cool an opposition player or to stem the goal rally of the opponents.
  10. Been thinking about our game style. We get the ball enough but because of turnovers, poor decisions and not being able to convert inside 50's we lose matches. I'd like to see us minimise turnovers, play smart and of course convert. This would mean an increase to our skills, better use of strategy when working out a game plan, and taking marks and becoming better crumbers. The other thing I want to see is a plan to stop the opposition when they take control of the game. Finally, I want us to play for the entire 4 quarters. Most of this comes down to being mentally strong with good coaching.
  11. We should do better than last year. We are desperate to prove ourselves, our list has changed for the better and there has been a coaching renewal. The draw is also pretty good for us, especially the first third of the season. Wins will create confidence. I expect us to go on and win at least 14 games this year. Hoping for no losses, though finishing 4th, 5th or 6th is where I realistically see us. Bold prediction: Tom Lynch will be rubbed out for 3 weeks because of excessive sooking. Max Gawn wins the brownlow. Brisbane versus St kilda grand final.
  12. He has missed lots of football. The maturity I mean, is gained from the experience on the field at an elite level. While he remains on our list and will get games this year (more than likely), I will discuss him. You can move on or do you mean the club should delist. If not successful this season they may delist him.
  13. I'd use J. Smith on and off the bench, mainly forward as an impact player who givies others a rest.
  14. That is a strong opinion of an AFL listed player. @Port Demons I think Joel Smith has an upside. He can do the spectacular and should be played forward as an impact player. He can get a bit lost out there. As he matures then put more responsibility/expectations on him. Hoping to get some remorse from you, either this or the next season. I will grudgingly apologise if he can't cut it. I believe he will be a game winner and not just one of our best 26.
  15. If I was coaching, it would be kicking drills only at all the scheduled trainings and getting them to pair up for kick to kick on their afternoons off. It is two weeks in a row that the basic couldn't be completed. Repeat and repeat everyday, is one way to improve their skills
  16. They were trying. The start of the 3rd they tried to fight us. It had the reverse effect. We kept playing footy and took hold of the game. Typical Hardwick tactics.
  17. Some of our transition with clean ball movement from the backline to score was great. Made quick replies when Richmond scored. Acouple when they started coming at us. Did the Tigers kick two goals in a row? They seemed to get that gell in the midfield, working well together. Hoping they can connect better with the forwards. A few too many bombs. Backline held up well. Though need a player who can stop the oppositions cumbersome. Forwards need to be able to lock the ball in or at least slow the exit of the opposition down.
  18. Some excellent ruck work that quarter, Gawn and Jackson. Good slings off the half back from Rivers.
  19. We are not over using the ball and seem to be going quite direct. A few bombs into to forward line. Would like to see us change the angles as we move through the midfield. We are taking a few marks. The smalls are finding space. Too easy for Richmond as they come out of our forward area..
  20. Weids and Ben working together in rehab, should lead to a good rapport between them. Hopefully they support each other to be better players, with a reduction of getting in each other's way and have that comradeship and connection earlier.
  21. Both, as offence can always be taken, depending on the pain, the consequences and the situation. Good intentions may be interpreted as non-recognition, or ignorance. Good Intentions give an opportunity for the conversation. Good Intentions are always a good start to relating.
  22. The defensive pressure of the dogs baffled us. They were hard and ruffed us up. We couldn't find the space to execute our usual high skills. Not enough contributors. Cunningham had a bad day, she will bounce back. Scott and Zanker played well except for the missed goals. Paxman in everything, Daisy wasted in the back-line when most of the game was played in our half-forward and wing area. The game was an arm wrestle, except when in the dogs forward area. I think they suffered from the “red mist” and poor coaching.
  23. I didn't realise that you were talking about the origin of the word and not its meaning. You also indicated that Australian liquor laws were reasonable and we didn't need the sly grog places. So I pointed out the inequalities (prohibition) for women, given this forum is about the women's team. "Too grungy" for women. Should be their choice, though males patronise and take that decision away from them. Here is a Wikipedia cut and paste about women and the need for male supervision in the lounge area. The main bar of the typical Australian pub, usually the largest, was the so-called "Public Bar". However, this title was an ironic misnomer, as until the early to mid-1970s (1969 in Queensland), only men were permitted to drink in Public Bars: most pubs included a "Ladies' Lounge" furnished with chairs and tables where women and men could drink together, but women were usually not admitted to the Lounge Bar unless accompanied by a man, and were usually not permitted to buy their own drinks. Sorry about derailing the thread. Go Dees.
