I always thought Barassi never got the credit for building our 1987 team. No disrespect to Northy, but he got ALL the praise and Barassi got nothing and his stint here is still largely seen as a failure by most of the football world. Goody got us here but let’s not forget the contribution made by Roos. Petracca and Oliver both were under Roosey. The revival started under him. I’ll always be thankful for his time here. He sowed the seeds of this

Well there you go

I don’t think I could seriously indulge myself in that. As my uncle who’s in poor health is living with my father, I can visit as a carer. Watching it with dad is more important than being there. Youngest brother wants to go, but won’t unless we make it for sure. Bit hard when you need to quarantine.

That’s a bit premature wouldn’t you say?

To answer a former question here, we won’t be wearing our alternate for the rest of the season. If Port make it, they will wear clash strip

I’m all for this, but why am I seeing this in Melbourne Demons?

How young were you when Barass last raised the cup?

Just a spec in the universe -
Is this the best Demons side of the last 57 years?

Yes. 1987 team never would have beaten Carlton in the grand final. Flower, Lyon and Wilson wouldn’t have played. Carlton had easily beat us that year. 1988 team went through a bad slump and in the end was lucky to make it. Hawthorn we’re far too strong. 1998 team was good but too unpredictable to really go all the way. 2000 face facts, we were playing for second all year. Nearly got beaten by Carlton in the elimination final. This is the best team I’ve seen and I’m not young either -
Gave me a heart attack again. So glad we won. Class performance at the end after some lazy efforts. Looking really strong now. How they come back recharged and smash the cats/giants

To quote Freddy Krueger “sorry kid. I don’t believe in fairy tales.”
-
He didn’t. It’s just a silly excuse people invented for poor performances. Anyone that believes that must still believe in Santa Claus. Even if he did, he returned as coach and would have immediately reversed any “curse” he put on it. Lets hope we can win it this year and prove this excuse was nothing but ridiculous hocus pocus.

A few years ago, I would have said the qualifying final against Adelaide in 1998. Our first final after all the merger crap, also after “winning” wooden spoon the year before. I didn’t really expect us to win, was just happy to be there at the game to see them in a final after them almost being extinct. Wonderful game. Beat them easily and were never threatened. Now I’d say it was the 2018 final against Geelong. First time I’ve ever been to a game where we’d beaten them. Wonderful atmosphere. About 80% we’re demons supporters. A real emotional time to be there after 12 years without finals. Best game I’ve ever been to

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
Cassiew replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
l was so happy when port took off our record for grand final belting. Cant really see someone kick 100 a year in today’s standards. It’s more a team effort that wins games -
Anyone seen the give them hell merch? I may be unpopular for saying this, but I think that demon looks awful. The mechanise here is way better. I can’t help that it feels like it has little to do with the finals, it could have been used as our theme at the start of the year and no one would have known the difference. Melbourne Storm used to release minor premiership t-shirts. I would have bought one of those, as this is a historic moment and it would be nice to have a memento. Don’t think I’ll be buying any of this stuff though, no offence

My childhood was in the clash strip so I have a lot of affection for it. I think it’s the best one and I wouldn’t be too bothered if we wear in in the grand final. That saying the navy blue will always be my preferred one.

Oops, how could I forget. The greatest, Ali becomes champ

Well technically the AFL keeps the trophy and we get a replica. I can’t wait to see it though

10 year ago in one of the last games of the year Geelong beat us by 186 points. How much can change in time. Now we’re the party poopers

Last time we were top of the table: My parents were adolescents. Mary Poppins was released. The Beatles toured Australia. Dermont Brereton and Eddie Maguire were born. God Save the Queen was our national anthem (urgh) Robert Menzies was prime minister. The Vietnam war was escalating. We were still using pounds and shillings. Lyndon Johnson was the US president. The Tokyo olympics were held. The New York world fair is held. The last looney tunes cartoon is made. Russell Crowe is born. National service in re-introduced. Keanu Reeves is born. Douglas McArthur and Harpo Marx died. it’s been a LOOONG while.

Still recovering. I can not believe what I witnessed. We were gone in the second half. I thought it was over. What a fight back. It’s so often the other way (us giving up leads and losing). This will be a game we’ll be talking about for years. Redemption for Max Gawn after 2018. Minor premiers for the first time since 1964. The first time in my and all my brother’s lifetimes. So proud of this club ❤️

What would you do for the club if we won the flag?
Cassiew replied to ding's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’ve promised to wear my hair in Sailor Moon buns for a week if we do. Even though my boss would be furious, it’s a bet I’ve promised to do. One brother has promised to get a demons tattoo on his bum, the other has pledged not to go to work for a week. We’re a crazy family -
Thought we were lazy at the start and later on, but a stunning win. Loved seeing Fitch on spark. 7.0. What an effort. Now we have equaled or highest ever winning season (1956.) Go Dees.

There can be no more doubt. This our best season since 1964. Our most wins since 1956. Our team are premiership contenders and we have a genuine chance.
