First goal for this quarter bodes well. This heavy rain will make a difference, too. You may’ve tipped correctly after all.

A Mitch Hannan goal to win it after the 4th quarter siren would be nice...

Hannan straight in as the sub for Keith.  Tackle ... free kick.  Looks to be in ripping condition

Hannan has a point to prove...I wish him well. I liked him at the Dees. His goal in the 2018 Elimination final against Geelong to ice the game and the deafening roar of the Melbourne Crowd in that game and the following week against the Hawks is a memory I will treasure.

    Best of luck to Mitch.

Did you end up tipping the Dogs, @layzie?

    Negatory, chickened out hard 😐

I did! Changed my tip just before the start of the game - as the game progresses, looking like it's a good move - thanks layzie, wouldn't have done it without your prompting...

I know we have a different team now however I don't ever remember the MFC winning by a " very large margin" hardtack.

    2018 Round 9, MCG: Melbourne 25.9.159 defeated Carlton 7.8.50

Melbourne won by 109 points! I was there with my daughter - it was FANTASTIC!

A most enjoyable day at the MCG. What is more against a bogey side. Grundy was excellent today and I can't wait for max to be back and in form to watch those 2.

Frittas goal in the third was my moment of the day. And Van Roo had a great 1st up.

    My beer is tasting excellent.

Famous victory. Sydney vanquished. Go the Mighty MFC. Was so much fun to see us win at the MCG. Made new friends today. Go Dees!

Melbourne v Collingwood. Opening Round, Friday Night. Recipe for biggest AFL opening crowd ever. Expect 100,000+

    Do it in 2024.

    COME ON AFL!!!!!!

Precedent is there, Grand Final replay.

Glad you agree Allus Monk. Precedent is well and truly set. 60 years after Melbourne and Collingwood last met in a Grand Final...to meet in an opening round, prime time, when both teams are in good form. Ratings BONANZA. 100,000+ at the game - FOR SURE. Not to mention sponsorship deals... How could the AFL marketing team miss this opportunity? COME ON AFL. Action this in 2024.

Pies will be a real threat this year. We already can’t beat them at the best of times…

It seems I have greater faith than you in the Dees. I base this on knowing that we learnt much over the past few years.

For instance: how to beat Geelong when it mattered after countless painful losses: round 23, 2021 to take the minor premiership. Smashed them in the Prelim 2021 also. Won the Premiership in 2021. Apply the same to all comers this year including Pies and with ordinary luck/injuries and we'll have every chance to take anybody anytime.

Bring on Kings Birthday. I can't wait to see the Dees take the Pies on.

Ever stood in the outer at the Western oval back in the day?

    Yep.

Absolutely. Never any dramas. There's always a few blockheads around at any ground, but on the whole, the Western Oval was okay (and brilliant in 1987).

Was there at the Western Oval in the last round of 1987. Saw us beat the Dogs and get into the finals for the first time into my life. As I remember it, we needed Hawthorn to beat Geelong at Kardinia Park to get into the finals and the unforgettable roar came over the ground when someone heard on the radio and shared that Dunstall had kicked the winning goal. Was also there at the Western Oval in 1976 final round when we needed to beat the Dogs to get into the finals for the first time in my life. On that occasion I think there was a draw in another game which meant we missed out on the finals. I was devastated. I'll be there at the G tomorrow and am looking forward to tomorrow's game against the Dogs. Go MELBOURNE!

You really should have turned left at Albuquerque.

I did. In 1992 on a road trip from Chicago to Los Angeles, I made a point of turning left at Albuquerque, curious to discover where the wisdom of Bugs Bunny would lead me. The road led me to a town called "Truth or Consequences" where I went to the movies in an old cinema and and stayed overnight sleeping in a rental Teepee. True story.

  13. I was there at Moorabin today and Grundy was impressive. In one particular passage of play, he unselfishly dished off a clever handball to a fellow Demon when he could have had a shot at goal, but it resulted in a string of play resulting in a goal. I thought it deserved praise so I yelled out "Onya Reg!". The crowd in my immediate vicinity found the comment amusing and there was significant communal giggling. Perhaps the nickname will stick...

Have they though? Their sense of fashion is to walk around looking like the MCG toilets after a Richmond/Collingwood game.

Comedy gold (and brown)! Thank you for this quote on Hawthorn supporters, Dr Gonzo - it gave me the best belly laugh I've had in ages!

    The music is gone.

So much better to hear the crowd after goals. Having loud music then just ruins the atmosphere, blunts the emotional ebb and flow of the crowd sounds in the game.

Now that the AFL have seen the light will they also logically cut the music in the lead up to the first bounce? Music is also ruining that period of crowd cheers...
