Fair enough - However, in todays game coaches love players that can win their own football - winning the contested ball is everything. Funny enough I reckon our position will be strengthened or weakened depending on what we decide to do with Lewis & Vince. Fun times ahead.

Or exactly what I said we would pay before the trade went thru ( I even made a bet on this site ) and exactly what Peter Jackson confirmed after the trade went thru. Adelaide opted for the 2 x first rounders due to the fact this years draft in full of talented SA kids - so no go home factor - and we were more than happy to oblige. Lever was a bargain due to the Crows internal player payment structure - but that payment structure has worked well for them in the past just in this instance we took advantage of it. Wines needs to be our priority this year, followed by Gaff as a free agent. I think we will easily have the cap room - Port wont have, but Ollie is very loyal. Gaff think the salary would be similar on either side of the country - just a matter of does he want to come home.

2018 Membership Thread
The longer you wait the more likely they will all be sold out - every club has only a limited allocation. Ball is in your court - if you miss out you can really only blame yourself. But, Iām sure some will blame the club or the AFL such is life.

AFL Fans Association meeting.
Yes, I would do it - but Iām very positive about the future of the game, these days I also would put the game in front of any particular club loyalty & although I'm based in Victoria I support a national game over old Victorian VFL bias. IMHO the health and welfare of the players is paramount ( both during and after their playing career ) and I stand firmly against internet vitriol and āhatersā - So im not sure Iām the type of supporter you would want.

Big Clubs Rule the AFL
Yeah itās ok I get it all the time on this site because I go to other clubs business functions and I work for the AFL because I appreciate the support they have given the MFC - so lol for sure.

Big Clubs Rule the AFL
I knew you where a Hawthorn supporter all along.

What a weak response I barrack for the Demons duh - I say thank you AFL for saving the MFC some of us have the ability to appreciate your assistance. Intrestingly not one of you could bare to answer the questions - made me chuckle.

Bails was one of the nicest blokes you would ever meet, wicked dry sense of humour, but imho too friendly with the players. Neeldy was an ex-school teacher and a tough no nonsense disciplinary. However, club was heavily under resourced for 2 first time AFL coaches. I could never blame the coach - tough gig MFC coaching.?

Neeld gone (from Essendon)
That's a myth - I've said on numerous occasions Demons have some of the best supporters in the AFL. Now to Neeldy, often coaches are used as scapegoats and does make great media to sell newspapers - its almost become a sport - what coach will go first. I wish Neeldy well and hope he moves onto bigger and better opportunities.

Who delivered the CEO to your doorstep? Who approved every board member you have? Who gave you a "loan" to pay out certain contracts? Therefore effectively allowing you to pick up an experienced AFL coach & media performer in Paul Roos. However more importantly - what part of the MFC community was excluded from the whole process? ie CEO selection & Board selection. Culture is a mindset across your whole community.

I dont disagree with you - you make some very valid points.

I cant thank the Tigers enough for what they have taught me. Was not that long ago we were down the bottom together. One club took positive affirmative actions, grew their memberships win, lose or draw, grew their crowds and the welfare & happiness of their players is everything - the other still blames past players, past coaches, past administrators etc etc One has a positive culture the other is just learning what it takes to become a successful AFL football club in 2018. No secret to winning AFL premierships - just hard work from all at your football club, stay true to the message and ignore the external "noise" - winners are grinners losers can please themselves.

No - canāt say I do. Just feel every week AFL football has 9 winning teams - 9 losing teams. It was only like 8 games ago Bombers where playing finals football. Maybe Neeldy is an āeasyā target and best thing for him and his family is to move on - donāt look back and embrace a new future, stuff what many anonymous posters are saying on social media sites.

Some people donāt understand football is only a game - they live their life vicariously thru football. As a club we are not alone most clubs suffer the same disease, we just have a name for it - MFCSS. Sadly, we have many, many community members suffering from MFCSS and they canāt see it - I once cared today Iāve moved on and wish them well. I will always barrack for the Demons but the people in football are more important than winning or losing, your players - your club staff and administration are everything- I treat all irrespective of which club they work for with respect. Wish Needly also moves on a gets on with his life - he gave his best and thatās all you can ever ask.

Well said. I would hazard a guess the 95% of the posters in this site never met Mark. I would have zero bad things to say about him, obviously we wanted him to succeed as a Demon - but it was not to be. But I agree the vitriol directed towards him / "'opinions" does the wider MFC community no good - but such is life. No good arguing with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Much better to just move on and enjoy life.

Wish Neeldy all the best with whatever he may do. Found him to be very polite, very committed and placed in a position with too much expectation for a first time coach - his face was so expressive I appreciated his honesty. Good footy person - Yet not the best Iāve ever seen at football politics/ football media.

Peter Jackson stepping down
BG is an outstanding football person - destined for the top job at the AFL one day.

Peter Jackson stepping down
Three top quality football people that understand the business of football - where the health and welfare of your players is everything. Three top quality listeners to āstreet wiseā business people that support your club - football is a business where your costs are rising but on the whole incomes relatively stagnate without change. Itās easy for idiots to get online with no more knowledge that what they get out of newspapers - PJ & the AFL understand this. Well done to both.
-
Peter Jackson stepping down
Iām not going to comment on individual bullet points but I do agree with the general sentiment. The business of AFL football is tough and highly competitive, you need experienced āstreet wiseā business people to steer the club - not doctors, lawyers, media executives, politicians or social workers etc Such is life I supported the last CEO, I supported this CEO I will support the next CEO - best of luck to whoever it may be.
-
Peter Jackson stepping down
The MFC needs the AFL support more than ever. The precedent is set with the current coach - he got about 12 months and the knives started appearing. A few well timed articles in the newspapers and the monkeys will fall out trees with the vitriol & āwe have heard it all before.ā MFCSS is toxic and lurking in the āshadowsā Interesting times ahead. Wish the new CEO luck and will watch with interest.

Peter Jackson stepping down
Thanks PJ thank-you AFL some of us will be forever grateful for your assistance. Interesting times ahead.

Joel Wilkinson legal action - racism & sexual harassment
Well said but some people think they have "freedom of speech" to spread whatever hate they want. More commonly known as "hate speech" I've seen and heard it directed towards our players, coaches & administrators for many, many years. The "AFL" has a duty of care to provide a racist free environment both on and off the field.

Average Home Attendances 2018
Iām not disagreeing with you - think selling home games interstate is just part of the overall clubs development. Revenues from the NT deal, Debt Demoltion and poker machines ultimately saved the MFC from extinction.

Port can only demand the equivalent compensation to what they are paying him - last year we got Lever for equivalent to pick 5. Wines is probably not quite to the value of pick 5 but it would be close - so easily doable if he nominated the Demons. Dont ālock it in yet Eddyā but Port have taken a huge gamble and itās not paying off yet.
-
Andrew Gaff
Donāt disagree Gaff has to be a target. But our number 1 target needs to be Ollie Wines - Port have bet the farm and at this stage things are not going well.
