Was it an "extensive review" or a "serious review" - big difference? Or was it Tigers spin to protect against the "hostile take-over" and sustain their growing 70K plus memberships, huge crowds, record sponsorship deals, next to no reliance on poker machines and a few other alternative incomes they are setting up - not to forget their massive imputs from State & Federal Governments? When CC and Marchy took over I'm sure they were out there "rattling tins" to coin a phrase - not unlike another club I happen to know. I'm sure we finished last and they finished second last? Since then look at their membership numbers, look at their average crowds, look at their sponsorship numbers, look at their lack of reliance on Poker machines, look at their development programmes, look at their investments in Punt Rd facilities - hell they dont even sell home games these days. If you dont think that CC & FD had a big role to play - stick with your "xxxxxx reviews" Just for the record I'm not disagreeing with your comments re-Marchy but think he does deserve some of the credit along with Blair & CC - next time you see our CEO ask him what sustained stability would do for the MFC ?
-
No problems we agree to disagree - easy I've always thought we were under finances and under resourced. We were writing cheques to pay off debt and play games at the MCG. Other clubs were writing cheques to invest into their football departments.

Brilliant job taking into account the situation - but feel free to use only half the quote. Those little words "taking into account the situation" - not that important.

Sorry cant post the Yes Minister Video
-
No.

This is the sad thing about our club - the politicians, lawyers and media executives know more than the football people. Except when you put AFL approved CEO ( Professional AFL football Administrator) and AFL hand picked and approved board in power - shivers look how we start to perform. Take the politics out of it - refuse to give the members and supporters a vote at their OWN AGM's - holly shivers looks what happens. How dumb are me and you ?? Yeah it was all our recruiters fault.
-
If you really want to get your football opinions from a padded press release, ok .- Not sure you are across the "political aspects" of AFL football clubs. Honestly, they are a minefield - ah the good old "extensive review". The old "restructure of recruiting", ah Blair you need to do this, Francis you need to do this - ok all cool. Ross & Greg dont get their contracts re-newed - OMG who the F are they, you need a higher profile coaches to grab the media headlines, lets go for Leppa and Carrecella. Sure did trade Lids - what the hell where GWS thinking. Look at the deals Richmond got for Lids compared to the deal Hawks got for Lewis. Hell I would have traded Lids in the blink of an eye - Dusty was up the following year for FA they needed the room. Keep Lids and loose Dusty - interesting concept.
-
This is a very interesting assessment - "crisis" only in the minds of some fans that stood outside the confines of the club & that idiot Kevin Barlett. Barlett would be complaining about something even if the Tigers made the Grand Final - thats his job. Politically, football clubs are a mine-field. Glad we dont have to experience that anymore - long may it continue.

Had I known there was so much hate & blame still around for CC I would not have. I thought we had matured as a club, learnt from our mistakes - sorry I was clearly wrong. Now I comprehend my mistake - the expertise at Demonland regarding Footy Department maters at the MFC and across multiple clubs is staggering - I officially apologise for starting the thread.
-
Now- your and other Demonland poster attacks on BP & CC are quite funny. As you are all experienced AFL draft and recruiting( including opposition analysts) experts, with experience at multiple AFL clubs - I defer to your greater knowledge. Have you ever met CC or BP? Have you ever talked football with them? Its well worth trying - your opinions may change.
-
Is there an argument to say with the value of hindsight 8 out of the 10 clubs got it wrong? Plus interesting to note a/ the club with the highest FD spending Eagles got it right b/ the best draft and development team on the list (Essendon) nailed Hurley at 5
-
Think its fair to say Max has come along way, ironically with Roos as the coach - time will tell if there is any more improvement left in him under Goodwin.
-
I can assure you I'm also not related to CC & BP. 100% agree with you Chazz has no understanding of what certain personnel at a club do in regards to drafting, trading and free agency, he has made an assumption and he is wrong.
-
Yes, Im sorry you are wrong. VP has answered for CC I will help you with BP. Do you know what an "opposition analyst" does? I will give you a clue in the era of modern day recruiting. There are basically 3 ways to recruit a player to your club. 1/ Draft 2/ Trade 3/ Free Agency. Your "opposition analyst" is vital in the recruiting process - Do you understand why?
-
Well then CC and BP both were head-hunted from the MFC and got jobs directly related to recruiting. So if the "poor ones" arent related to recruiting well then your argument makes no sense or you dont know the facts. Interesting article you should read - http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/man-who-rebuilt-the-tigers-just-another-face-in-the-crowd/news-story/a16a3c8cba0a36eef6bbd05366797b26
-
Not sure its "overlooked" many fans are ignorant of what is happening at their own clubs.
-
Its simple, if your club spends millions on player development and FD resources you get the right kids at nearly any pick in the draft. Plus you get the bonus of getting nearly any player you want during the trade period. How much more have Geelong spent than us ? - you would be staggered.
-
Possibly or it could just be the speed of the game. Most, and please note I said most, ruckmen are useless. They cant run, they cant kick, the cant handball and they are nearly always injured. I seriously doubt there is a coach in the competition that rates ruckmen. If anything the rules changes have aided "ruckmen" to remain in the game. It is a unique part of the game - but the writing is on the wall.

No White for MFC Clash Jumpers for Season 2018
DaveyDee replied to Rodney (Balls) Grinter's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could not give a toss what colour or clash jumpers are. Its just such a non-issue. I care more how we play the game, how many wins we will have and if we are going to make the finals. -
Its heart warming to hear an MFC supporter say this. Finally, we can start the long road back, put the past behind us, respect the people and the positions they hold at our football club. The future is bright Go Dees
-
Today its referred to as "coach-ability" research & resources will find the right kids irrespective where you take them in the draft - but it all costs money. I have no emotional attachment to CC or BP - just dont accept the illogical argument they where to blame. Because if you where right they would never have got other jobs at AFL clubs - but they both did at numerous clubs and with more responsibility. I too have my attachment to the MFC. I just find it amusing some MFC supporters want to fix the symptoms and not the cause of the problems. Now dont get me wrong I fully understand - WHY - they only see the symptoms. Hence, our massive reliance of PJ and an AFL approved board for our future - long may it continue. Head of recruitment is only as good as the resources and people around him - then when the hand over of the kid is done to development staff again you need good people - sorry to say all costs money.
-
You dont need a "crystal ball" - you just have to understand the laws of probability. Regardless of how the club was - ??? What??? More like regardless of what our armchair supporters think PJ and the AFL have dragged us out the pooh without the supporters/members ever having a vote ( say ) in the MFC's destiny. Long may it continue.
-
With all due respect "our game" has never been in better shape. You may be living in a different era and not coming to terms with the evolution of "our game". This is not to give blanket approval to everything the AFL does - but think the AFL do get the mass majority of their decisions correct. Lets be brutally honest, the majority of the rule changes are forced upon the AFL because of clubs manipulating the rules.
-
Barry's record improves when we start investing money into development Good to see some Demons supporters finally getting where our real problems are. However, research, resources and development costs big money. We fell off the cliff - because while we were writing cheques to play games at the MCG and pay off debt, our opposition was writing cheques to improve all facets of their football departments.
-
The game has passed ruckmen by - they are outdated Dinosaurs and have been for many years.
