  1. Interesting idea - But the AFL are doing so well - Why change a winning formula? Sure the AFL will always have their knockers, no matter what they do, but that says more about the knockers than the AFL. Im rapt the AFL stepped in and saved our club, I rapt the way the AFL has handled the game over the last 20-30 years - now thats not giving the AFL blanket approval, but Im prepared to live with the good and the bad and get on with supporting the MFC AND the AFL. Sometimes you have to say - thank-you and put aside the petty little issue and recognise the professionalism of the AFL.
  2. AFL releases TV ratings and the interstate teams dominate them - Sydney especially. I appreciate many are very critical of a National competition and the AFL but maybe time to admit the AFL got it right. Long may it continue - huge thanks to the AFL http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-12-03/gf-friday-night-footy-dominates-tv-ratings
  3. I agree with you saying things like"Only one statistic counts. Games won" & "winning is the answer to everything" is just pure rubbish - AFL clubs live on stats. Plus we live in a game where every week you have 9 winners and 9 losers - sometimes you need to do the analysis to why you won or lost - then you are on the right path. Sadly, some forums only focus on the negative side of the debate.
  4. Ahhh - thanks probably when I heard the name Andy - was not aware Demonland was also called Andy. Anyway thank-you to all everyone of you is doing a great job and truly appreciated by many of us. Go dees
  5. What is interesting about this list - nearly every one was taken later in the draft and everyone is very "teachable/coachable" then has been developed to play a specific role in the team. So much for early draft picks being the panacea to all your problems, sure they are elite talent but have the right development programmes and you can get talent from nearly anywhere in the drafting process. Go Dees
  6. Interesting you talk about injuries being a factor - there is a very, very strong theory that many injuries can be avoided if you are investing large amounts of money into your football department in the area of Sports Science - you concentrate your funds in the following areas - Strength and conditioning, individualising each players programme with constant weekly reviews and tests - Injury prevention, related to above but you also deals with player education and facilities - Injury recovery and management - few players play injury free, its critical understand how to deal with "minor" injuries often they lead to "major" injuries. Alternatively, a player coming back from injury needs special treatment. - Elite performance - How to acheive more out your body yet still avoid injury BUT - this all costs huge money - your can never have too much money in the area of Sports Science its a bottomless pit. The more you spend the closer to a flag you are. The big spenders in this area are Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Adelaide, West Coast, Colingwood, Essendon & in recent years Richmond - do you recognise a pattern there?
  7. This is a very funny thread - it reflects and mirrors where we have come from as a football club over the last 50 years. Go dees
  8. First time in 15 years think we are a genuine chance to finish 7th,8th,9th or 10th - we have the right mix of depth, quality & gameplan - anything less and I would be disappointed. However, we crunch the numbers on a weekly basis and by rounds 3-5 next year we will have a much clearer picture - were MFC could easily see an adjustment either up or down. But I"m optimistic it should be following our upward trend. We are a good solid 4-8 years from a premiership assuming we can keep our Footy Department spending up -and I can't recall being ever able to say that. However, football changes quickly and you can always snag one ahead of time aka Hawks 2008?
  9. Interesting - not sure the stats back up your theory, if losing a single player out of you teams means you are "rooted" then that points to a much greater problem that needs fixed. Think Crows losing Dangerfield no great problem, think Geelong losing Ablett, Tigers losing Deledio, Hawks losing Buddy the list could go on and on. Its a myth - but a myth you can make a fair amount of money from if you exploit it. I dont think we have to worry about losing a single player we have done an excellent job fixing our depth issues. Just for the record IMHO far more important factors are - Game plan ie how you play each individual ground - team match ups - you need depth, plus how you match up against the opposition team - days break between games - better known as recovery time - confidence - attitude, belief in what you are doing is right, positive mental attitude - team balance - players ability to play their role in the team game plan. - team experience levels - combination of age & total number of games played
  10. Thank-you for the clarification.my apologies. IMHO what you are doing for the club on these podcasts is exactly what we have been missing for so many years. Keep up the great work.
  11. Sorry did I get that wrong? I missed the first few minutes and its the 1st Podcast I've really ever listened too on Demonland.
  12. I respect your opinion - However, as costs in AFL football rise if you cant invest more into your FD department you will fall behind. Sadly, 17 other clubs dont care what happened to us in round 23 and those clubs will continue to invest more money into their footy departments. Today we are an AFL club committed to increase the spending in our FD. Irrespective if our pokies revenues stay or go - we need to seek alternative revenues.
  13. Great interview well done to Grapeviney & Nasher - much appreciated. Oh & I loved the "special comments man" afterwards, he is a wealth of MFC knowledge.
  14. The board is normally a collection of MFC supporters elected by the MFC membership via election, the CEO is appointed by the board - the most honest assessment of our true situation was - the MFC have 90% of us going one way and 10% the other. Today we are politics free with a CEO controlling our football club on a day-day basis and a board politics free looking after our long-term future. Sometimes its easy to compare coaches, players, CEO's, board members, club employees but circumstances change and you may not be comparing apples with apples.
  15. OMG - from somebody who has clearly never spent any time with Bails, Goody or Neeldy. But I'm glad you did clarify it and say you "would've thought" hence clearly stating it was only your opinion. IMHO you should never judge a man till you have met him - so I'm going to pass no judgement on you. Except to say you are very critical of many of our ex-employees who gave nothing but there best & maybe as a club we let them down just as much as the other way. Since the AFL has stepped in to fix our main issues bitterness, hate, overt criticism hopefully is a thing of the past. Today we have a bright future.
  16. Classic case of MFCSS
  17. I hope you are right, the anti-Poker Machine lobby get a fair amount of funding they have an agenda to push. I agree with you we are still in-front at this stage. But balls of crystal are their to be broken, things are a changin. You cant hide the truth forever, you can mask it with bright lights, bells and whistles but eventually people will understand a zero sum games - but then again you might be right some will never learn. Re your Goyder comments, again Im with you I understand the "review" process as discussed on another thread. But "none of this happens quickly" could also mean Diamond Jim we cant get rid of them tomorrow but we need time to find alternative sources of income. But I hope you are right - Go Dees
  18. Added side note - since we are talking business your google adds on Demonland are streaming high paying business adds on my screen - omg looks like I could hit a few and make Demonland some extra dollars. Maybe we have crammed the page with good quality keywords and somebody at MR Google like you.
  19. Now you are playing ducks and drakes - I dont mind the idea, but I have a funny feeling somebody will see thru your cunning plan - Baldrick. But I'm no expert in this area - so I prefer not to take me on my word.
  20. I will do my best to get there Friday 1st December to give fellow Demonlander what I see, I"m not great with my words but maybe a pic or 2 might make up for that. Go Dees
  21. Lets be brutally honest about things like poker machines, they are designed to take money off elderly people ( time rich entertainment poor ) who think all forms of gambling are the same. Ethically, think the AFL is opposed to that they are a bit smarter than that, they fully understand all forms of gambling are not the same. So they are moving exclusively to remove poker machine revenues. That could have a massive impact on the MFC. This thread is designed to say - its not a matter of if its a matter of when AFL clubs exit poker machines, we need to find alternatives sources of income. But in the off chance machines do stay heavens we have a win-win we keep our poker machine revenues & we have an alternative source of income. Go Dees
  22. IMHO you are spot on. To attract a business person of this quality and this type of dedication would be outstanding for the MFC. However, if there is one thing I know about many. many business men & large corporations is they have a very "thin skin" when it comes to criticism of their brands and they seek positive vibrant energetic communities to invest in. You would have to somewhat control all elements of your community - However, these days with the internet I wish you well.
  23. You are doing a great job dumping this thread, but please dont try to derail SWYL idea. Sounds like he is passionate about the TV industry - sounds like he is passionate about the MFC. Give the him a go.
  24. Sounds like you have some experience in the Television industry - sounds like a good idea. You should share it with the club. Im not experienced in this area, but if it was good for the MFC hell I would do my best to support you.
  25. Thank-you for your personal attack on me. I dont think you and me are ever going to see eye to eye. I would prefer we spoke about ways to earn more money to build our club, build our brand, build our memberships, build our crowds. Im off to do that now. Go Dees
