WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
I'd play Preusse as a CHBack, with some ruck relieving roles across a game. Be an ideal opponent for some of the well-favoured, smart-arse, Hawkins-like forwards around the competition at present, and could be lethal when required for the Selwoods, Dangerfields, the whole Filth team, and in tempering some of the Essendrug thugs. That is just a small handful of potential roles if we wanted to get nasty with all teams ... hitman heaven!

Farewell Jesse Hogan
His potential reigns, even after the past two years in which (the rest of) our Club has struggled almost continuously to reliably deliver the ball with the adage of 'eyes up' that may have otherwise encouraged Hoges to lead into space, to bring the ball to ground goalward and to score a phenomenal amount of goals - or provide goal assists - in that timeframe and yet, he still has an impressive record of goals scored, remains a tremendous threat to opposing teams' backmen and has made his way all over the forward line to become more involved and more mobile as an attacking forward with exceptional forward line defensive pressure. Now that the Dees in general are moving the ball with intent rather than ' bombing ' it to earn a statistic (aka the Jones' mantra), the team is more suited to enabling Hoges to be the forward he actually is - dynamic and prolific. Let's hope that these team qualities continue and further develop, and from that, Hoges' potential is assured and with it, the MFC success rate will escalate markedly.

Good observation!

That would be an excellent outcome. Confidence-boosting, as well. Now for the kicking technique and kicking for distance beyond 35 metres...

Andrew Gaff
Article in the worst newspaper in Australia, this morning; 'The Advertiser' states clearly that Gaff is off the recruitment queue for the MFC - being offered over $1 mil per year from the bank-raiding Kangaroos. Still, maybe his act of aggression and 'brain fade' was his first thought at sabotaging the Eagles' season as early as possible. Bad choice made in quick time onfield.

Mobility and aggression at the ball is his need for the team. We do not really want to continue with the long bombs on top or over his head representing pathetic 50m arc entries from the midfield. We need a mobile forward with power to go, to get the ball, to take that ball and use it effectively - all in the same stride. Crumbers should accompany him to improve effectiveness and team intent. Jack R'woldt at the Tiges changed his game to go get ball - no just rely on big speccies (although he in known for these) but on sheer intent and purpose, representing (almost) the only tall on the Tiges' fwd line. The Weed ain't too young, nor underdeveloped if he wants to be effective - he just needs g & d to do it after at least two years of tolerant practice in a forward role. He can kick them if in possession. So far, he has not justified his footballing salary and the wishes of the Club.

And have a little chat to the MFC officials, the players, the FD in private, the recruiters, real estate agencies and other essential contacts related to the relocation for the 2019 season - a fresh start!

Nicely posited argument full of fascinating aspirations for Dees' fans. It does look like panning out, well. Enjoyed you commentary, dimmy.

Agreed, and mandatory 'ducking' for a free, slipping into the hot contact domain that is so common, reducing the severity of the real offence when it is wilfully applied by an aggressor.

Fairy 'Nuff.

Still chase him for 2019 - less cost is fine. Players sometimes learn from mistakes, particularly big mistakes like Gaff's.

Gaff out, West Coast team emptying of important players to injury each week. Umpire scrutiny keenly challenged in the last few weeks. These are things that a Demon supporter at this stage of this season likes to hear ... it would be good not to play the Toiges in our first week of the finals...

Darwin game dumped
Shame, gate receipts could be quite stunningly magnified if it was about streaking.

Yeah, ignore the tendency but I still dream each night of Robbie turning into traffic with the options of left or right foot, for effect. Will there ever be another of his ilk?

Cynically beautiful in concept and reasoning. Who actually would want the traitor, anyway? He is past his value to us, these days and would never provide a substitute for Viney, Jones (over the years) or Clarrie. I'd reckon that Spargo has a bigger heart and loyalty than this Donald Duck.

Great analysis, thank you.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Agreed, all absolute cow tish. Hogan has a head on his shoulders and it tells him to do as he is doing. It keeps him sane and to a large extent, low-profile in comparison to some egomaniacs only just nearing his aptitudes on the football field. We see a little frustration from him at times and for realistic reasons concerning 'team' but more frequently, tremendous smiles and motivation for the Demons and himself to continue along winning pathways. He is the epitome of all things good in football, with loyalty to the Club not discounted. He will retire in years to come as a Demon with a fantastic career in evidence. As we improve as a linking, team-oriented group of players with commensurate success ever-increasing Hogan, too, will contiuously improve and receive immense reward for his efforts in this regard. He is the new breed of footballing pros: skilled, improving, team-centred, successful and importantly, winning.

2018 Membership Thread
At that personal level, I have four MFC supporters in my family, with my wife and two of my sons avid supporters making up three members and one who would be if he was to live in Viccy more permanently. One drives to games from Sydney, my wife and I drive from Adelaide. The two of us will be at the Interstate Members function at the Sporting Globe hotel in Richmond, this coming Saturday and will be moving along to the Doggies game at the 'G soon after to bask in the glory of another win. Just love the footy. This might be my sixth trip for the year! Other than that, it's Foxtel. So it's: 1. Daddy 2. Mummy 3.Son No. 2 4. Son No. 4. As the grandchildren proliferate and grow, there's gotta be another 6 avid members on the trot to support and join the MFC. My daughter is impartial to the rough game, but her little son, at 6 months, already has the Dees' beanie and scarf, and not much choice in the matter. Another two children of mine got the Geelong bug years ago but Son No. 3 - and his sons - seem to think their dad knows everything, including all of the Cats. Never mind.

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
Good concepts and reasons. Well done.

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
You got that wrong, LH. Terribly wrong and moreso because it is a frequent, week-to-week outcome right across the ground. The first rule of umpiring is: ' IF IT'S A 30 (OTHER TEAM) TO 70 (MFC) OR HIGHER, (MFC) CALL, PENALISE MELBOURNE. FURTHERMORE, IF THE MFC ARE GOING TO SCORE FROM THE DECISION, IT IS MANDATORILY A PENALTY AGAINST THE MFC.' You should have checked with Razor Ray before this post, as he would have put you right. Any doubts, ring Gil for a confirmation. Now, the second rule of umpiring is: ????????? (Fill this space.....................)

Andrew Gaff
Fully agree on Jayden Hunt - maybe he can develop some more skills for this role in the next few weeks/months. He does need to be able to apply his speed with a change of direction. In a straight line, he's very fast. A capacity to weave reliably, to blind turn or to combine 'eyes up' scanning to teammates with that speed would be phenomenally potent.Could be the next Stan Alves if that was the case and located on the wing with 2-way running from HBF to HFF or spots in-between. He already has Alves' kicking aptitudes and grunt speed.

It would be nice to be considered (the MFC) as the destination team of choice for players of a particular calibre.

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
Start a new topic? Lewis for 2IC to the Head Coach? Lewis retires, takes on a senior coaching role with Dees? Lewis oversights Dees' game day tactics?

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Oops, it's not the spelling, it's the dreaded 'g-skip' eyesight problem again, affecting finger accuracy on this cheap Chinese-made laptop computer. I suffer from this affliction as well. That, combined with arthritis, is another insurmountable barrier to spell-check activation at times. Sorry.
