We would be up to two games and percentage in the 8.
I just had a depressingly hilarious stat spring up into my mind: Will we end up having the highest % for a team that's missed the 8 (If we miss) - That is one record that nobody wants to ever have.

Wow. Germany with the late free kick goal. Poor Sweden. Another great game. Gee this world cup is really kicking the AFL's arse for spectacle. Every one of them entertaining in the least and gripping, intense and nail biting at best. Loving the fluidity of ball movement.

God that really puts things in perspective, considering I don't rate either of those clubs right now. [censored]!
I suppose the bright side is that a team that's chasing our spot in the 8 only beat the Bulldogs by 4 or so points ?

Confident one will edge us out of finals
Confident that both clubs fans are preparing their best jokes for 9 weeks time. I hope that thought will motivate our dees to do anything to prevent that happening to us.. again

So we're officially on the same points as the Kangaroos and Hawks down at 8th and 9th ?

This is not the scalp you're looking for
Goody has a bit of work to do if he's going to beat Chris Scott. I do think we can match them everywhere else around the ground though.

In: Garlett
Out: Hannan
Too many chances for this bloke
Tommy Mac, please be okay and available
I thought hannan was one of our best forwards in the first half. Did enough.

next 3 matches have come at best possible time to get momentum again and give us a 2nd chance to springboard off it with a more gelling 22 to take on the good teams

Winning all 3 is essentially necessary to make finals. It won’t change the perception that we’re a pretender, we just need the wins.
But if we can win all three, we still have three chances to beat a better side (Geelong, WC, Sydney).
Adel and Gws will be interesting . If we get job done on 4 bottom sides, then those 2 games are big.idstill think hawks, gws or kangas will lose some unexpected games and we will do enough without beating wcesydgeel. Best one of them and top 4 or 5/6 is still possible

bloody kruze, every first touch seemed a metre too far and easily blocked and turned over

Iran V Span was our match last night.
Cannot say I loved it...there were the Iranian tactics and then there was the noise. Having airhorns going off constantly (and I mean constantly) together with people leaping to their feet at the slightest touch by Iran didn't make for the ideal viewing experience.
And what is it about people and phone cameras... yeah take a few as I do but a few hundred. Perhaps there is truth in the sayng that "It never happened unless they have a photo and it's on facebook !!"
Enough of my rant...today is our big match from an Australian perspective. It's 3pm local Russian time and the weather today is very pleasant. Go the Socceroos
I loved the match last night, it was so gripping on TV. I don't know much about soccer, but i found this game like a game of Chess. Only one opponent is chasing the King to get a check-mate for half an hour and the other is running away/holding tight defensively one queen down. Even though Iran had some great look ins and should've equalized. Just a very dramatic tense match. Low scoring tight contests have their own beauty compared with the free flowing goaled games, in AFL too.

I use to listen to his ‘absolute radio’ podcasts with Ricky Gervais, welcome aboard.
And with the mention of Ricky Gervais, my mind instantly hears his high pitched cackle.

Had to refresh my memory, thought others may as well.
"Really exciting" sounds promising. Been awhile since I watched that video. He looks like a faster and more dynamic version of Wagner with a good searching right foot kick on him and bravery to affect the spoil as a loose defender.

it’s hard to keep paying medical bills for no onfield return.
Hard, but Sydney did it with Alex Johnson for 6 years, Freo with Morabito for 5 or 6, Geelong with Menzel for 4 years. Though those clubs did reach higher on the ladder and perhaps had more scope to have a high risk high reward list spot. Still, would like to see him get on the field even if it's next year. (Give him another year)

Their rating of the runs home isn't too bad, it factors in opponents' percentage, games against the current top 8, and travel. I'm surprised ours is so easy given we still have three interstate trips plus a trip to Geelong.
If we beat Port and do what we ought to do (and so far this year have done) against St Kilda, Fremantle, the Dogs and Gold Coast, we should be OK. But that's only 13 wins. A 14th win would make it a sure thing, which means the above plus probably Adelaide (assuming they continue to be tripe) or GWS at the G.
If we only end up on 13 wins, we're going to need to do better in our losses than we have so far. We can't afford to shed percentage every time we lose, and we're going to lose. I'm confident 13 will get us in provided our percentage holds up.
Round 23 vs GWS at the G could well be a "win and in" for both sides. Let's hope we've secured our spot because I really don't want to have to go through that again (and from 8-3 we shouldn't have to).
i'm hoping that we can snag a 'season defining win' against the odds v WCE/SYD/GEEL like we have done in the last few years ( v Geelong 15', v Hawthorn 16', v Adel/WCe 17') - At least that will offset any potential hiccup against Adel or GWS, and if none, then we're back in top 4 contention. All the other games should be in the bag for the quality of footy we've produced so far providing we cover for Lever.

Made a joke about this on reddit, but losing isn't that bad a thing for WCE, if they and Sydney keep a game and percentage clear of Richmond/others for the rest of the year (if Geelong win this round) then they're preventing a victorian team getting that home QF/prelim grand final path, multiplying the chances of an interstate GF. 2005/06 Deja Vu. They're [censored] otherwise. Even i'd fancy OUR chances against WCE at the G on the big stage ?

Would've liked to have seen more shots from 50-60 on the run by Melksham, Brayshaw, Jones once we had got wind of their tactic of flooding defence. Sometimes i think players are not sensing the occasion intuitively, but sticking too rigidly to a tactic.
