  1. Absolutely correct, though he completed his schooling in Moe and played for the Lions, though mainly Gippsland Power.
  2. After she made that comment, along with the one that "Joey from Moe" wouldn't be an MCC member, both crass, elitist , plain dumb and absolutely incorrect., I wrote to Ms Roffey. I was concise and polite, as a 50 year resident and worker in and around Moe, making it clear how I regarded her "throw away" (?) lines. I also pointed out how Bernie Vince played for the mighty Moe Lions after leaving the Demons, and former (2 games) player Declan Keilty is the current captain coach. Current Suns stars Bailey Humphrey and Sam Flanders are both from Moe. I was disappointed but hardly surprised she did not reply.
  3. I believe my 72 years on this planet, including 51 years teaching, qualifies me to be a fair judge of character. And so, having met and conversed with Peter Lawrence on a number of occasions, I concur with the views of old55, that Peter is "capable, intelligent, empathetic, generous and passionate." As for the president, my only personal experience with her is when she failed to respond to a letter I wrote, but to me she is ever present in good times , but notably absent otherwise. I believe she and her board have run a shamefully "closed shop" at election times, resisting all reasonable reforms urged by Peter until generally legally or otherwise coerced to concede, culminating in this week's self obsessive and misleading "victory lap" email. My regard for the CEO was also diminished by his infantile and obsessive display at the AGM. As for the board's successes since 2021, precisely what have they achieved? I know Peter is ever present at at the Demons AFL, VFL and AFLW games, all over Australia, but how about the board? I have no objections to those who reasonably disagree with Peter's actions, but I say do not doubt his motives, and the vitriolic abuse by some is symptomatic of those who have not met him, made themselves aware of what he's about, nor are interested enough in our club to care.. Somebody on this forum has asserted that Peter will never achieve board status, but I say "don't bet on it!" When the Kate Roffeys and Gary Perts of this world have moved on, Peter Lawrence will still be in there pitching, for the Red and the Blue he loves and for which he has already sacrificed so much. Interesting times await.
  4. I had the live stream of the AGM on, the other night, here in the depths of Gippsland, as I engaged myself in cooking dinner, when I was stopped in my tracks by Gary Pert,s admonishment of ,apparently, one present at the meeting, who was there, "with your mates to cause trouble." From this, I conclude: 1. The aforesaid "one", apparently an election candidate, has Mr Pert rattled, 2.The fact he gained 1900 votes may be a contributing factor, and 3. Mr Pert's explanation for disallowing questions and answers on the livestream may further indicate it's more than one who are rattled.
  5. I flew in this morning from the Central Gippsland wetlands to Casey, to check out MFC training, for the first time since Grand Final week 2000, and maybe even to give a report. Perhaps the fact that I was obviously the only observer, for several hours, should have been a dead giveaway, but a genial Richo enlightened me. ''How did you get in, don't you know it's a closed session, and do you work for a club?" ''Mate'', I say, ''Richo,''' I say, ''I'm just a retired schoolteacher with too much time on my hands!'' ''No worries'',says a grinning Richo. Anyhow, I'd love to give a scintillatingly informative report, but [1]. it would probably all be redacted, and [2]. duck season is imminent.
  6. Happily married to a longtime Bulldogs fan and member for 26years, but the next 2 weeks will be a unique and very interesting experience !
  7. Paul was a wonderful guest speaker at our Gippsland Primary Schools Sports Camp in the 1990's, and I'll never forget how his personality was aptly refelected in his recorded phone answering message. "Hi, you've rung Paul Callery. I'm not in right now, but please leave a message, and remember, if you think terrific, by golly, YOU'LL BE TERRIFIC!"
  8. Found this old photo from the 80s during Barassi’s coaching years but can’t seem to figure out who any of these players are, can anyone help?
  9. What game were you watching? Your negativity is astounding!
  10. Roos also briefly talked about Hogan's kicking style too. Compared it to how Kennedy was initially criticised for his style, before he got more experience and is now considered a pretty good forward with an odd style. Roos said he expected the same to happen to Hogan with more experience and opportunities.
