He didn't 'fail dismally'.  What else would you have him do?

And by that, I mean - was it his fault that Hogan and Petracca completely stuffed gettable chances in the last quarter?  Was it his fault that Neal-Bullen and Weideman were picked, even though they were clearly wrong decisions?

Jones does everything he can.  He might miss the odd target from time to time, but wasn't the problem at all today.

He regularly misses targets and bombs the ball high in the air to no target. He tries his heart out but needs to focus more on the results of his efforts with better disposal.

They have been.  The AFL recruited our CEO, determined who could and couldn't be on our Board and provided significant amounts of money when we were at our lowest ebb at the time of appointing Roos.

One can be fully cognisant of history while supporting a team.  Only a nong would think it's mutually exclusive.

There's been a lot of AFL support for many teams over many years. Like any business I'm sure a lot of stuff happens behind the scenes that the public never even hear about.

Yea it was odd wasn't it. Totally flat but also seems totally surprised by Carlton being very aggressive before the bounce.

We still have the issue of not being able to change the course of a game, we don't have anyone yet who can do so. If we are in the game and in front we can keep driving but when flat it's a different story. This should change as the younger "guns" grow into the game... We hope. :)

There's no guarantee of this given the mental fragility demonstrated time and again.

  4. This was a highly significant game in the recent history of our club and the players did not rise to the occasion and did not use the momentum and enthusiasm generated by beating Hawthorn and Port Adelaide. Both of those teams would have easily smashed Carlton today. This group of players should hang their heads in shame for their putrid effort in an important game that could have led to a finals campaign. Shame on you.

Sad thing is none of what i saw was a suprise.

The handballs to team mates under pressure.

The inability to choose the best option - and quickly.

    The kicking for goal.

Giving opposition way too much space coming up forward from the midfield.

Direct turnovers going coast to coast.

Its the same things ad nauseam from loses weve already had. We had it all on the line and thats what we served up.

    Pathetic.

It reminded me of the Essendon debacle.

There are 6 games left and we need to get a scalp that shows we may have improved a bit.

We must win one of the following -  Eagles in Perth, Geelong in Geelong or Hawks at the MCG.

Port in Adelaide would be great too, but those three are the real litmus test.

Unlikely. The only possibility is Geelong if we can scrag Dangerfield (like Bernie did last year).

Please, please, please can we make sure one of the games in PRIOR to the bye. Give the players from both teams a chance to recover.

Not exactly stoked about this decision, but money in the bank.

The money is meaningless. The AFL gives money to the Demons when we need it. The two extra losses per game (one up there and one the week after) are not worth it. Yes we won last week but that's been a rare occurrence.

I think the biggest difference was that Crossy had approached the club asking them for a response on his playing future in the next week or so. The club may have done things a bit differently if given a different time frame but with the situation being what it was, they were honest and said no. The fact that Crossy returned to the club after the decision (after a period of understandable disappointment) shows that the club handled it right.
I have to say this is a rumour but from what I have heard is that Junior was told on a flight to (or from?) Adelaide that next week would be his next game. No consultation, no time to respond. Against a backdrop of constant veteran delistings, it was like throwing petrol on a bonfire; basically telling the group that loyalty, record or effort didn't really amount to a pile of beans. Like a draft horse who had outlived it's usefulness, we will put a slug in your head as soon as we deem your time is up.
I think the turning point on how we treat long term servants changed to some extent when Flash retired. As far as I can tell, he was fully informed and was given a decent farewell upon leaving.

That next week would be his next game? Isn't it usually that way?

Exactly and good players will leave...putting us in the same cycle over and over

we must nail trade week and Free Agency...

Yes I agree. We have improved now and we are competitive compared with the regular 100+ point losses of a couple of years ago. However we now need to move to the next level with some more elite level players.

It is time to blood Hulett. I understand the 'Dawes provides structure' argument but now is the time to put Hulett in. I don't think it's enough.

And I may well be in the minority but I'm not as enamoured with Dom Tyson as others are.

Dawes provides structure only as a pillar of salt. Useless.
