A serendipitous star of spin. Tried his hand at afl but didn't really cut it. I think he played club cricket, so it's not like he rose through the normal state ranks. Not a supreme athlete in terms of diet and lifestyle in the beginning. But just WOW, the cream started to rise. Gave cricket and the forgotten art of spin just what it needed. Including yes ...the flipper. What an absolute champion of the game he became. You always knew when he came on something exciting was going to go down. Like THAT ball against poor Mike G. How fun to watch him bowl with five fielders surroundeing the batsman by a couple of feet. The dirt on his hands and that seemingly effortless roll of the wrist and magic of the fingers. The constant look of fear in batsman's eyes and confusion how they were dismissed. I may be naive, but I like to think he's up their in the pearly nets sending a few googlies to Sir Don after a nice Hawaiian pizza and a VB. Condolences to his children. Probably why there's more biffo in that game. I think umps have the right not to be abused but that's a big difference to simply arguing the toss of the coin. Afl players are under considerable duress and while they are well compensated, they need to blow off a little steam now and then. Is pointing to the scoreboard replay and questioning the validity of the decision so offensive? I mean it's not like those maggots..I mean white grubs...I mean those arbitrary arbitrators get it right all the time. Sometimes we see quite a few absolute howlers. It's pretty hard to not scream from the comfort of my lounge chair, so I can't imagine how hard its is for a player to keep mom. Just my two cents.

Your right. I used to have a front wheel Magna that had a smaller Tc than Tmac circa two seasons ago, but he seemed to have fixed this last year and here's hoping he keeps going well this season.

I always thought the term maggot was a long part of the afl tradition. An inseparable part of its vernacular like Jezza you beauty. I won't be taking a good hard look at myself and will continue to use the word because it beats jumping the fence and confronting them. Of course there are limits but footy is the greatest stress relief for many and if calling someone a maggot when they can't even hear it, helps my mental health, then I am going for it. I'm sure maggots are not offended if they were called oh umpire.

Why can't they have a 25 m penalty as well? No all abuse or infractions are the same.

According to the new Afl abuse rules, I've that heard soon fans who endearingly refer to the umpires as maggots will face stiff new penalties.

Didnt see it all but I give Carlton their dues. Our minds and wings were lose for a fair while. Lots of fumbles. Our backline looked like swiss cheese at times. Thought young Bowey was good though. Lever rusty as expected and a few missing. Two many players flying high at the same time so less ground ball gets. Fritta back.in fine form. Would have won if not for our old slow start. Nothing really to see here. Just a practice game where we only flexed after half time and almost pinched it.
