  1. If it’s not too late, my question is:

Is Schache near the cusp of selection? I’m just not sure we can carry someone like Brown for much longer if he’s not hitting the scoreboard. I also think Schache could play the second ruck which would leave JvR as a stay at home forward.

Freo were NEVER at any stage of this season, or in fact last season, any better than us. In anything. Except for stuffing up trades 😂

It was a pathetic reactionary call from a reactionary commentator who flips and flops more than a dying fish.

I agree that they weren’t above us, but I could see where he was coming from after we had just lost two in a row. Goodwin even lauded Freo as a team on the rise in his post match presser after that game.

David King had Freo in his top 4 ranking after they beat us. This was when I decided to stop listening to the media “analysis”, as it’s literally just a bunch of wanna be footballers with absolutely no idea about the modern game.

To be fair, Freo had just won something like 3 or 4 in a row (including the Cats) and were playing really good footy. Since Darcy’s injury they haven’t been the same.

What grinds my gears more is the whole “Collingwood were rife with illness”narrative around our win against them. Kingy mentioned it today when saying how the MCG was a fortress to Collingwood and he had to use an excuse for them losing to us.

Hunter has been diabolical for weeks, he needs a fair amount of time at Casey. Maybe Jordon back to the wing, because he is completely ineffective as a central midfielder. I'd still love to see Dunstan get a chance whilst Oliver is out.

I thought McVee may have been wearing concrete boots yesterday. He has had an excellent season, but looks due for a rest. Bring in Hibberd for him this week and reassess.

I really like Woewodin as a player, but he's just not getting enough football. Time to bring Harmes back.

As much as it would be great to see Brown taking 8 marks and kicking 5 goals, that's just not where he is at right now. But our forward line looks significantly better with him in it. We do need another marking option, because it is asking too much of Melksham to be that player consistently.

I think the extra tall forward such as Brown is doing wonders for our forward line. He goes on long leads and his height and stretch worries the opposition. My main issue with Brown is that he’s terrible once the ball hits the ground. Schache is better at the ground level stuff and is a better field kick but I think the coaches really value Brown’s craft and experience which is what Grundy and Schache do not have.

  5. Adelaide are the second best offensive side in the comp and have a very healthy percentage. It was amazing that we let them only kick 6 goals in the first 3 qtrs. Once the shackles came off and with some costly turnovers, they did kick some easy ones, but overall I think beating the two best offensive sides back to back is a great relief.

I think we’ll defend Richmond much better next week given their lack of tall targets.

All we need to do is win 2 of our next 5 and top 4 is guaranteed. It’s unbelievable how well we’ve done without Oliver.

One other thing, Chin over Spargo any day. He has so much more depth to his kicks.

If Schache could be this good at AFL level we’d be laughing.

We’ve only played him 1 game. We really should have given him more given time how much we’ve let JVR coast at AFL level.

Looking at the team selection, I would expect only one of Tomlinson or Hibberd to play, unless there's a late withdrawal of one of the other nominated defenders or one of Tomlinson or Hibberd is the sub. The other six defenders (May, Lever, Salem, Rivers, Bowey and McVee) are all ahead of Tomlinson and Hibberd and we play seven defenders, not eight.

I suspect Tomlinson will play while one of Chandler or Laurie will replace Spargo. Smith, in my view, will again be the sub.

Tomlinson is named on the field so he’s definitely playing.
