WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Yep Cats built their list on the drafts of 99 & 01 and the Hawks built there's off 01 & 04. Absolutely nail 2 or 3 drafts with 7 or 8 core players and some bookends and you set yourselves up very well Often-missed is the 2006 draft; Selwood & Hawkins.

Darcy Parish
I never wanted him in the first place.

Is that a difference? I think most people thought the same.

We all will. As if we were the only one who did.

I've been convinced that Oliver is the best choice for us at 3, but what you said above is just silly. 180cm is perfectly fine.

I think you're bang on, although he does sometimes find himself running into 50 in a lot of space and always seems to have a lot of time, giving the illusion that he is fast.

You're right, but I couldn't be bothered editing it after I realised. Substitute for Jarryd Blair.

Say what you like but Andrew Hooper is a STAR!

This is where behaviour, character and attitude take precedence over pure talent at this early point of the draft.

I thought it was a sarcastic assertion that Toumpas provided exactly what we'd be likely to receive from Parish, and your agreement. If not, that's fine. I think my point probably still stands about the contrast between the 2.

There's a distinct difference though, between Parish & Toumpas. Toumpas is an outside runner, his bread & butter is getting on the end of handball receives and looseballs. The pressure has made him crumble and make poor decisions. Parish looks to win contested footy and uses it so quickly. He does the opposite of crumbling under the pressure; he anticipates it, makes quick decisions accordingly and EXECUTES. Even look at the highlights of the 2 pre-draft. Toumpas was running fast unattended on the wing, kicking long range goals. Nearly every "highlight" was a looseball get. I don't argue that he was a hard runner for us, but he never displayed a willingness to get involved in the hot contest as a junior. Parish mostly gets his footy in close in his highlights, moves quickly, makes quick decisions, absorbs pressure, hits targets without panicking. Big contrast to my eyes.

Mick Turner's opinion of any falcons player should be wholeheartedly ignored. He invented hyperbole.

Recovered from injury maybe, but returned to full fitness? It's not like the kid has just finished putting in a full preseason.

Utterly reliable. Obviously.
-
Darcy Parish
You shouldn't.

Darcy Parish
You do? Maybe the most detailed, but I wouldn't consider him as being close to the most accurate.

She has no eye for talent and regurgitates an amalgamation of what she has heard from recruiters & talent managers.

Where did she have Fyfe in his year..?

Was that not shortly after returning from a layoff with a busted thumb? If so, you can forgive him for a flat spot, I think.

I think the odds are that there will be a better secondary choice option available as a KPF at pick 7, than there will be as a midfielder if we pass on Parish at pick 3. I'd rather Parish + Weideman/McKay/Curnow than Weideman/McKay/Curnow + Mathieson/Oliver/Francis. Parish certainly doesn't last til pick 7 unfortunately.

I think this goes for most footballers these days. They all look like lean triathletes in person.

I wonder if CAC went on to post on a Richmond forum.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
The Danger trade was relatively easy? Is everybody conveniently forgetting the way Geelong tried to get him as a FA to begin with and his manager publicly pleading for the crows to let it go? It was simply a case of the prospect being on the table from a long way out and discussions being held leading up to the trade period, so a lot of the work had already been done. Both clubs had an incentive to get it done quickly so they could move onto other deals. I'd say most of our deals would have been in a similar vein, had they not been held up by other critical preceding deals involving old mates Essendon, St Kilda & Collingwood. Once those deals fell into place we moved quickly.

I'd guess we take Parish at 3 simply because he's too good to pass up, especially for our needs. And then Oliver is a potential pick depending on who goes at 4, 5 & 6. I know there's talk of Milera to Gold Coast at 6, but I couldn't see us taking him as early as 7, and we need to make sure all our bases are covered if Curnow, Weideman, Francis, etc. are all gone. I'm not against taking Oliver either, as I love the look of his attack, but I'd choose Parish ahead of him every time.
