Been waiting for something like this. Richmond will do the same kind of thing too.

I'm expecting Mahoney, Taylor & Viney to have a bit more up their sleeve - maybe getting involved in the Ablett deal? Suns said they want players, not picks. Something like this seems roughly equitable to me. Geelong get: Ablett, Watts Suns get: Wagner, pick 22 Dees get: pick 19, 35

I often spend months negotiating a single contract. The OP has no clue. This is not the real world, where I can try to get someone to drop another $50k late in the piece, and end up with $30k - there are set increments. Clubs have (for instance) pick 30 or 47. They can't say you can have 47, then to get it done drop that pick down to 42. It's a set number. When 30 is too much, you have to settle for close enough. In the end, we either do the deal or we don't, there was no option to do it for less, that much is clear. Look how Dodoro has fared in recent years with his hardline stance - we still only paid 2nd rounders for Melksham & Hibberd. Sure, we paid more than I'd have preferred, but we've just been smarter here & saved ourselves the pain of days on end of holding our ground but getting nowhere, then eventually realising we've opened the door for someone else to reap the benefits of our hard work, then biting the bullet & making this deal anyway. It's just the perception that is getting to the OP.

Don't mind him, but a fringe player and I don't think he'll ever be anything more. Could be a solid role player.

If give up too much hope of getting Fritsch. It'd be like Bulldogs supporters last year expecting to get Hannan.

And keep dealing with Essendon (once we've set the terms).

As Roos was so good at luring other coaches into, with Howe and Frawley.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC
Mach5 replied to ignition.'s topic in Melbourne Demons
Not a great comparison, but they both did play at Freo. No where near as hard. Not really a contested ball-winner or decent tackler. Better vision, decision-making, skill (going by junior form), but about the same pace. Has size on his side. -
Such a silly post.

Yeah, nah. Misson stays.

I think McCartney alongside a Dew would be best for the Suns, but won't tempt McCartney. McCartney alone would be the best achievable outcome for them, in my opinion. It was only a matter of time before teams started coming in hard for him though. This happens when you have good people, but I'd hate to see him go.

Hilarious the outrage at the start of the thread from people who had scant understanding of the changes, and even less insight into Robbo's feelings about them. How utterly embarrassing.
-
I'd kill to not have him at the club. He was good as a player, but I think he would be a very average assistant coach. Seemingly Carlton & North agree.

VFL Semi Final - Casey Demons v Richmond VFL
Mach5 replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
It'll never happen, so probably better to put energy & thought into something that's actually achievable. -
It's generally something that is not done, and would be terrible practice, but there is no specific rule against it. What player would sign a contract immediately before going to another team? They would surely need or at least want to negotiate terms with the team they'll actually be on the list of. It just doesn't work logically.

Still bloody young for KPF, is the Weid. -

Not sure about that, we were allowed to get away with a lot. It was poor in general though. Umpiring had very little influence on the end result. -

Very frustrating to see our players fumble so often, then when they're about to gain control a teammate comes through and dispossesses them, then fumbles themselves... ad nauseum. -

Maynard has been immense, but needs to learn the defensive side of the game. Both quarters have now ended with Zijai kicking it out on the full. -

Having both Mitch King & Spencer in the side seems like a mistake. Kennedy & Kennedy-Harris might as well take a seat, they are giving us nothing. -
Wouldn't think the Morrish would change his draft selection. Kids are picked on their attributes, not accolades.

Would be a great pick-up if we don't value forward pressure. The guy can kick goals, but is incapable of pretty much anything else. Suspect body too. Firm no.

IIRC Balic trained with us in preseason as an underage player, so we'd have a goodbye earn on him. I think we could better, even with a late pick. -
Reminds me a bit of Stinger actually (sacrilege, I know)

Salem will be a versatile small, able to play a rebounding defender role, a wing or a high half forward - most of these already can do competently. He does hold his spot in the 22, only being dropped momentarily due to indifferent form after being rushed back from injury. You also may be conveniently forgetting the time he has lost to development due to unlucky thyroid issues and injuries. I'd probably question your ability to assess a player's role, scope and his place in the pecking order, based on your previous post. Either way, his penetrating disposal is not easily replaced, and his hardness underrated. Weideman may not be as versatile as Curnow, but he will become a very capable forward.
