Might be a case that him being a bit simple is actually an asset. Anyway, the article had a bit of a moronic sentiment. Nuffies can get wound up about Viney & McDonald if they like, but inevitably injuries hit. These guys will heal in time, and if we can't win without them, we probably aren't good enough to be playing finals anyway.

He might be thick, but he's an affable fella, easy to talk to... It seems a natural ability of his to talk to people and have them feel at ease, so they open up and divulge things they may not otherwise. Not hard to see how that could be valuable in his previous roles.

Are we the worst marking team in the league?
Mach5 replied to Umpire Please's topic in Melbourne Demons
Vastly different game styles. Ours is obviously heavy with draw, handball, run, repeat. Geelong's speed of ball movement comes from precise kicking. -
Happy with both in.

You lot need to harden up.

I just know how they love to play their little mind games, but at this stage I now expect him to sit it out.
-
That's fine. I expect him to play, but may be wrong.
-
Expect Danger to play.

I reckon Huddo's 8 from 9 includes us losing to his Cats first up, too.

More a comment aiming my disdain at Carey, really. But I digress...

Taking Wayne Carey seriously.

Don't hold back mate... pretty weak comment without justification, I'd think.

Dees Drink Own Bathwater According To Malthouse
Mach5 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
He could be correct, but I'd question how Malthouse could possibly know with such certainty... -
Funny, I reported the same at the time. There's a reason Geelong & Sydney passed eventually after a little digging. Same reason Port shipped Impey to Hawthorn, ironically.

I'd be vaguely interested to see what he said, but couldn't be bothered devoting any mental energy to coming up with a decent question, as I doubt I'd get a satisfying response. And I think for us as a club, that's probably a good thing too.

VFL Practice Match - Casey Demons v Port Melbourne

Yeah, nah. -
The logo above would have been an exercise in trying to find the balance between the perceived desires of a client and not wanting to be judged on the horrific end result. The bane of any graphic designer.

VFL Practice Match - Casey Demons v Port Melbourne

Headline: Young tall KPF isn't a star in his 3rd year after no preseason. -
ANB doesn't quite have the pace that you'd want in that role, although his running capacity is an asset. Spargo maybe. Hunt? It's great to see that our greatest weakness last year was the lack of a decent intercept defender, and we have now addressed that in the absolute best possible way.

Normally I'd agree. Treloar hasn't helped Collingwood as much as they'd liked, but will be a good player. However, Tom Lynch is a star of the competition and has been the best player in the league for periods. If they can get him, they should. Like Treloar, the question relates to cost, and anything more than they paid for Treloar, I think would verge on too much for Lynch. I'm also beginning to seriously question the value of true KPFs or KPP in general, as the game continues to evolve. Lynch is blue-chip, but I'm not sure he's worth it if his influence is marginalised by the style of play.

100% wrong, but it demonstrates an underappreciation for Salem's skillset. You must just see him as nice kick then, and little more? Salem's attack on the footy and commitment to the contest has been exemplary in his short career. As a junior he modelled his game on Hodge.

Massive loss. I'm not sure if many appreciate or understand the difference he makes. Obviously someone at the AFL does.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
Mach5 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's also the (non-injury related) considerations that 'draft experts' may have got it wrong about how high they rated a player like Spargo, or that List Managers may question how his play translates to the next level, or where he fits on the field. If he's projected to be a small forward or HHF, I think you need to be truly exceptional at what you do to be an early pick, not just 'really good.' -
Petracca will continue his natural progression and be dominant more often. Salem for mine, as one who will surprise spectators in general with how damaging he is. O-Mac will benefit greatly from Lever's presence in the backline, in terms of both leadership and support.
