  1. Playing another team with a poxy backline is helpful for us at this stage of the year trying to bed in that “forward connection”…if we can’t get the best of Frost and Sicily I don’t think we are going too far this season

I am amazed.  BB kicked two goals, took a number of marks up the ground, will take the main defender next week, ran all over the place. Clearly fit enough.
our man Petty first game back in a practice match, only on for 3 quarters and had little impact.   Not sure the FD will agree

i do agree JvR and either Petty Brown or TMac need to be settled as our talls

it would be good if Smith came back as well as Oliver has, but that race has been run I think.

Petty/JVR/Fritsch/Pickett (changing with ANB in midfield)/McAdam/Chandler is probably our best forward 6 IMO

I’m a big fan of Petty and I admit I have seen the replay of the WB game yet or the Casey practice match but from the reports on Pettys performance you’d have to question if he is ready for a return to AFL footy

The last thing we need to do is rush him back for him to underperform or worse get an injury - I would have thought we use BBB or Fullarton until Petty is actually ready to go

Yes I agree if he's not ready he shouldn't play, up to the coaches and conditioning staff - but Goodwin did say in last nights presser that everything has been building to get him ready for round 2

By all accounts Petty wasn’t up to form in the VFL practice game, and BBB did a great job (yes maybe on a NQR opponent) so why in the world make that change, yet ??

My reason is coz Petty is a better player and there isn't room for both of them - no knock on Brown who did his job but he was up against a guy who is inexperienced, 10cm shorter and 15kg lighter....the Petty and JVR combo looked dynamic in the couple of matches we saw it last year so time to keep building that synergy

  5. Happy to admit I was wrong about TMac and BBB both were very solid today…most pleasing thing for me was how tough and hard we were, had Bulldogs players jumping out of the way…I thought last week the Swans out hunted us so great to see the “1 wood” back

We were offered him by Freo when he left, they’d have taken peanuts. Jesse wanted to come back. Club said no due to his off field issues, probably understandably at the time. God we could do with him at the moment though!

Never heard this reported at the time…I thought he wanted a fresh start in a non football state?

Head scratching selections every week. I had hoped we learnt our lesson but apart from 21 Goody's usually got at least one selection each week that doesn't make sense. I mean 3 talls allowing lever to drop off his man and intercept is our best format in defence.

100% agree…every time we have tried this 2 tall backs it hasn’t worked…

Lets start with McAdam, like he's not in our side now he spent a lot of time injured at Adelaide.

Ok, we've been through this a lot but you don't want to believe it.

We all know there's a problem, the coach, the FD, the fans, the media...

The game plan can be argued, it drives me to distraction as well.

...but if we don't have the forwards it's no point opening the game up for opposition rebound.

We would get scored heavily against.

As much as I hate the game plan, I don't think it's the issue.

It's the cattle...you can't put out a forward line of Schache, Chandler, Laurie & Spargo and expect big scores.

...but the options weren't really there.

Every time we've come up with something that looks to work injury has struck us down.

Petty straightens us up, McAdam will be a help and I reckon Tholstrup will be a beauty.

Kozzy cost us big time the other night.

The game plan will change when we get the forward mix right. Bringing Salem into the midfield mix will also be a big help, but again injury (Bowey) might torpedo this. I sure hope we persist.

We're not refusing to acknowledge there is a problem, as you say Goody himself acknowledges it to the point of boredom.

Agree with this, we might not have the best forward 6 in the league but let’s see if we can get all of JVR, Petty, McAdam, Fritsch and Kozzie (and perhaps Fullerton) playing together before we judge it for the year

    Team selection

we have 3 new players. But only 2 without senior experience.
the selection of Billing’s is not a problem

    but

    we have 2 total newbies

Caleb Windsor early selection last year, surely it is only clubs in dire straits that pick their first selection in the opening game.  Or is he that good.  Why did he not go earlier. Maybe JT has pulled another.

Blake Howes been in our club for a year or so , we can assume natural improvement,

    good luck both,

Sheet , I hope these two go OK, and Billings has a good one,  Go Dee’s

The club and supporters have been crying out for a quick ball carrier who can kick a goal - from exposed form Caleb fills a need we haven't had so I have no issue playing him. Lachie Hunter is a solid player but he sure doesn't have the pace of our new #6 so looking forward to seeing what he can do on that wing
