  1. Care to clarify, DD?
  2. Even at my age (I was probably just a little shy of the legal age in '64...) I have joked with my family about doing this. Easy when it hasn't really been a prospect... Simple, small, well-concealed, but proudly borne and worn will be my go. Probably the 'MFC' and maybe the year. With room for addition.
  3. It may have been Melbourne 'supporters' abusing (i.e. I heartily agree with you, Syd!) but I can assure you at least one person in those scenes was very generously not doing so. Such surprises are possible: I was at that game with a great, diehard Essendon-supporter mate, sitting not far from the race. Of his own volition - possibly in solidarity with me, but he also has a soft spot for Melbourne - he went over to the fence and let forth with loud and expressive 'C'mon Dees' supportive urgings. He was most embarrassed to be splashed across the following day's papers seemingly as one of the abusers!
  4. Didn't know where else to post this, so here it is, from yesterday's Hun (apologies if someone else found somewhere else for it). Apart from Suns and North (LOL...) what's wrong with this picture? Someone's missed the Zeitgeist!
  5. I was there in 88 and 00. With that record, and if tonight's experience is anything to go by, I'll be quite content, thank you, with a stay-away, live-on-telly premiership 😉
  6. As an aside to the core thrust of the OP, this is a part of the 'September experience' normally gifted fans of the finals teams that is snatched from us. And no Gosch's sausage sizzling for me this year😒
  7. I hope all previous posters check in here again in the morning cos I wanted to thumbs up, heart, medal, haha ALL of you, as several glasses of what's good for me have accompanied a very pleasant trawl through these 13 pages. I've gone for an 11-minute walk at the 10-minutes-to-go mark of previous free-to-airs this year so I am very proud of myself that tonight my eyes stayed glued till the end, including watching Max's kick. It is, come what may now, a moment that can't be taken from me.
  8. We'll, not quite like that, perhaps...
  9. It's been such a long period of relatively steady success this year that this end(ish) result is sort of, like, 'Yeah, well, of course!'... ...but WHAT A WAY TO DO IT!!!! p.s. Silverware (McLelland (sp?) Trophy) is in the post🏆
  10. Eleventh(Twelfth?)mond
  11. Has this already been noted? In the (likely?) event that both teams from the west lose, and if(?) the Tigers win... ...Ninthmond.
  12. Positioning themselves for 7th(*). It's the only way they know... (*Yeah, I know, mathematically impossible, but you get my drift. Anyway, probably no pre-finals bye, so that part of their recipe gone too...)
  13. Welcome back (early?!) ds - with an apparently increased band of headscratchers! May I remind everyone that Neil Crompton has a still-unsolved team over on ds's Discombobulator thread (and also remind Neil that SOME CLUES WOULD HELP!!!)
  14. Don't mind Daisy's observations and analysis at all! Knowledgeable and informative. To a lesser extent, ditto for Lepper. But BT and JB? Yeah. Nah. Hopeful and misplaced drama their default.
  15. Schadenfreude is in overdrive.
  16. How much of 'home ground advantage' comes from 'home crowd'? Our players have often this year stressed the importance of the supporters. So, is an empty MCG as much of an advantage? The greater advantage/disadvantage/injustice issue might be 'home crowds' for 'away' teams at other venues, particularly Port and West Coast (and, gulp, Geelong - or is that now definitely off the table?) On another thread of this thread, I (no doubt like many others!) was there in 1988 and 2000. It might help the cause that I have to stay away...
  17. Thanks, Adonski. So we did trade future picks? That's proving to be another list management win!😃
  18. As an aside, did we trade any first (or second) round picks in this year's draft?
  19. "1 vote...Melbourne.....S..........May" "2 votes...Melbourne.....B..........Brown" "3 votes...Melbourne.....C..........Petracca" "4 votes...Melbourne.....C..........Oliver" "5 votes...Melbourne.....A..........Neal-Bullen" "6 votes...Melbourne.....L..........Jackson" "The AFL apologises to, reading from the backline, J. Bowey, H. Petty, J. Rivers, C.Salem, M. Gawn, J. Harmes, J. Melksham and K. Pickett" (Apologies to the tally room, too, if this cleverd***edness makes the count harder😬)
  20. I gather Patrick Dangerfield has advised he will recommend to the players association that they now temper their position on stepped reductions to ultimately 5-minute quarters in view of the respite that the new score review and ball up requirements will provide, provided also that the players receive a 50% share of the revenue windfall that accompanies this suite of changes. In a move related to the changes, the AFL is also commissioning a study into the increased incidence of lightning due to climate change. Early indications from last night's game are that sponsors are keen to take advantage of the long-form advertisement opportunities that regular extended breaks provide. Channel 7 is also excited by the increased exposure bound to be available to its marquee commentary team. The AFL is also considering permanent dismantling of the Marvel Stadium root. You made me do it demonstone...
  21. 🍺🥃🍷 So maybe I'm not seeing things straight. But is it just me thinks we at least got a few early quarters of 'favourable' (in that parallel Optus Stadium universe) umpiring? It is just me, isn't it... On another matter, top 4 locked in 2 rounds out is like a really BIG Friday-night-sit-back-and-watch-the-others win. Though now watch us all get angst about falling out of top 2...
  22. Thanks for this, Dean, Lucifer and others. I'd come to think it came from 'Old World', New World, Third World'. You made me research and I realise it must be the (COVID certainly) wine talking: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09571264.2010.495854 Cheers!🍷
  23. Goodwin in his presser said they fly home tonight after the game - although that's as good as tomorrow! In recovery terms, maybe worse...
  24. Literally nothing thrown up by concerted googlesearching (If Mark McGowan held a press conference and nobody came, etc?...) From snippet on ABC news tonight, looks like it might have been to announce WA's response to (and acceptance of) NT saying no more WA freeloader access to Howard Springs quarantine. Nothing to see here...
