  1. I'm also holding Bailey responsible for climate change as well.
  2. Over the years he has been manager Ferguson has had access to over a billion dollars to buy, recruit and pay the best footballers in the world. Ferguson has been a great manager backed by unrivalled resources. His success is built on bigger landmarks than theatrical tirades You said "belittling a person in front of his peers is poor management on any level." But you support the public humiliation of Pittman. Hypocrite strike one. Last I looked CJ was still playing football and Bailey felt he needed a rocket. So where's the difference? Hypocrite strike two. Oh what's that?? The end result justifies the means... Well then it must be OK to belittle a person in front of their peers. Hypocrite Strike 3.and Out...... Are you going to answer any of mine? What do you stand for Mo beyond the puffed up pretence of being "in the know"? You're a sad chip in need of a masochistic shoulder. My comments about Vidmar are on the record and have been quoted to you by Monty. If Adelaide does not win the A League flag, then Vidmar should be thinking about his career in the future. His public tantrum at elements within the Club wont affect them but have placed a noose around his neck After their 6-0 wipe out against Victory, did you notice that Vidmar did not attack his players in public for a truly awful and spineless display performance in the two games. Any criticisms were handled maturely and professionally behind closed doors as they should. Its no surprise they got over the Roar as a consequence with such appropriate coaching and counselling. And given you're big on the responsbility of the coach for outcomes then Vidmar should take the rap if they dont win.
  3. 11,12,13,15,19, and 33 (Adcock) for starters. Sam Fisher is somewhere in there at pick 50+ If the Club had two first round picks its critical that we get it right. McLean, subject to fitness, is one part of the jigsaw puzzle for the midfield. Taking a player at #3 and he does not become after 70 games and six years more than a fringe player then its a fail in my book regardless. I have long killed my initial expectation of Sylvia as a giant killer. As I have said earlier I had hoped he would at least have been a solid player for us. He has had too many poor performances to date. Spark up Col.
  4. Access to billions of dollars and the best players in the world sure stopped anything terminal at ManU. It was unnccessary at the time and the issues could have been address without having to publicly humiliate a player in front of his teammates, his coaches, his opposition, Club members and supporters and the general public. I have not noticed other coaches do that. May be they have learnt some lessons other clearly have not. I note the rule you apply to Pittman does not apply to CJ... How unusual Mo? So tell me Mo what do you actually stand for?
  5. The performances of Newton and Sylvia are not isolated. But you are right had we won there would not be so much emotive woebegone whinging. Possibly not. However if our a number of our first round picks either dont cut it at AFL level or perform as ordinary run of the mill football then hard questions and assessments should be asked about our recruiting and development of players. 2002 - #12 - Bell 2003 - # 3 - Sylvia 2004 - #13 - Bate 2004- #15 - Dunn 2004 - #12 - Moloney (Trade) 2005 - #12 - Jones It undermines the future of the Club if the best you can extract out of this group a couple of NQR C graders or taggers. There is time for a couple of the younger ones. But there are a too many who still have big question marks on them. If you cant access good talent from your top picks then where do you get it from?? If Jack Watts does not turn out to be an elite footballer that becomes critical and a big contributor to MFC's rise back up the ladder then I will be really [censored] off.
  6. I would not take a player that has a long OP history, past attitude problems, a mediocre performance record and a noticeable lack of football nous. Sylvia has no trade value and as we have him contracted we may as well see if we can get some good football out of him. I'd rather us try and extract something out of him than let someone strike it possibly lucky with him in PSD. Players who have records mediocre NQR playing records are not traded because no one wants them as each club has enough of the their own. Best to get your recruiting right and try and pick a gem through the draft where hopefully you can train them to do the right thing than scoop up another teams NQRs. ATM I can think of only Medhurst that has represented a good trade pick up. There have been a number of bombs
  7. Last year we had a number of players who either injured at the start of the year or had little pre season. It was Bailey's first season as Coach. He need to know which players could and could not perform under pressure. There were a number of senior players like Yze, White, Robbo, Neitz etc with question marks about their future at the top level. 3 of the 4 are gone with the other one with an uncertain future. I was surprised they gave Newton another contract. But I would suggest its for low bickies and done with the hope he could show something at least until better options emerge.
  8. No they just used to get the ball and cough it up continually to the opposition. Its not good enough either and we rightly moved them on. Newton's blown more opportunities than his form deserves. If Newton does not show anything in his next pre season match, he wont be considered for a long time. He already has a couple of crosses on his file and unless he dramatically changes his form then he is Casey only material. He is surviving due to he absence of other options up forward. But that wont last long
  9. While blind freddie would recognise the inherited list wreckage. woeful lack of training facilities and resources and the appalling off field dramas that Bailey had to contend with last year, there needs to be signs that there are improvements in some of the younger players and the side as a whole otherwise the heat in the kitchen will rise for him quickly. Outbursts like that are either terminal for the speaker or the target. Both Vidmar and Harvey are on very short ropes at the moment. Vidmar may well be gone after the A League GF. In regard to the condemnation of the senior players. He was saying the bleedin obvious and giving a general message that there was no road back for a number of them. However, IMO he was partly culpable for the outcome and I think his role is not safe if Freo are bottom 4 this year. Staged press conferences are not the appropriate platform for self destructive tirades. I am surprised so many posters expect coaches to rip into/humilate people in such a climate. Amazing.
  10. Which club would have given a 3rd round pick for two OP stricken players and another who would be fringe in most other teams? Clearly whatever you've consuming in the brown paper bag has given you the giggles and dissolved some critical cells. Keep slurping but stop when the walls start closing in. B)
  11. Rivers was crippled with OP (and is still not playing) and has no trade value. Miller would have got you no more than Sylvia. Strange concept of value.
  12. Sylvia does not have and has never had trade value. Given the current "dead" trading week process where Clubs are loathe to give up anything of value re draft picks who would be interested and what they give for a player who: 1. Has a long history of OP. 2. Has achieved stuff in all in 5 years of AFL footy. 3. Has exhibited off field problems. 4. Lacks footy smarts and nous. A player of similar vintage and disappointing output is 2003 No 2 AFL draft pick Farren Ray. WB traded Farren Ray and pick 48 to St Kilda for pick 31. Does not value Ray at much given he has no OP and no known off field issues. Who would part with a reasonable draft pick for Col given his record??? If Clubs want him they contrive it through the PSD.
  13. Sorry, should we extend his contract now? Most of our side ATM wouldn't Monty. The issue is Sylvia making the progress that the Coaching staff expect of him. He has this year to make it happen. On form shown so far he is struggling. Ball is in his court as it has been for a while.
  14. I know Robbo is keen but my understanding is that given the factors outlined he is probably up to 12 weeks off Casey. There may be a window in that time. I agree you cant play him at Casey if he is on the LTI list
  15. 6 weeks away?? He is barely doing lap work at the moment according to those who have attended training. He has done no substantive pre season and has participated in little of the group drills. He has had a bad tear of his achilles and is around 30. Well I know he bleeds red and blue but he is going to have to train the proverbial house down to be back in such a short time. I had understood some time ago that he would be AFL ready by the half way point of the year.
  16. Did you post the same thing last year? He did a full pre season last year. I did not realise he was so tired after such a long pre season. His problem is and has been between the ears. Its his sixth year on the list and the excuses are getting a little long in the tooth.
  17. At that point it was not clear where we positioned with Carroll's final year. And were all contracts finalised at that point. Chris Johnsons wasnt. It gave assurance and flexibility to MFC that having Robbo and Junior on the vets list. If we wanted Valenti on the senior list we would have taken on the list period. The coaching panel didn't think that and chose and drafted others before him. At the end of last year, Spencer was promising but green and expected to be one year or so away from playing. If he continues his development like we saw on Saturday he could easily take the No 1 ruck mantle and still be a rookie!. How far is Robbo away? Can he be put on the LT injury list? I would think all going well Spencer would be first in line for an elevation should there be an injury and the retirement during the year.
  18. As a back up for if other preferred players get injured like McLean, Moloney and Mc Donald and if he can exhibit improvement in the areas where the coaches clearly have question marks. On Saturday we only had McLean in the midfield (no Moloney or McDonald) hence my comment.
  19. No it isnt. Jamar is filling a spot and is No 1 ruck by default. Spencer showed why PJ is a 200cm rover. PJ cant mark over his head and cant kick goals when he indeed is given the opportunity. We recruited Grimes, Bennell, Jetta, Bail, Maric and Blease and they are well ahead of where Valenti is. Nick Sautner did not block Zomer. Zomer struggled at VFL 2nds and did not push for inclusion. Given Neitz retired mid season and we gave Newton some free runs in the AFL, there was stacks of opportunity. If Zomer has anything, he is a good chance to for future years. Its a big hope and he may not even make it. And its not common for side to call up a rookie on the main due to LTI. If MFC does have this, Spencer is a real chance. The others are not even in cooee.
  20. Hardly worth defending Monty. Either way its not anywhere near good enough. For Newton, the VFL is a final resting place. He does not have between the ears and he is now in his 5th year at the Club and cannot apply rudimentary skills or application. The best thing going for Zomer is that he is big and that Newton is horrible. He played VFL 2nds last year and showed little. Aside from training the house down what has Zomer done to compete for call up. The Club has no big decisions mid year. Its clear cut. If Spenser continues his form, then we need to elevate him. If Valenti is going to be elevated. He would have been so at the final cut for 2009. The forward line is a problem and aside from experiementing with Garland forward, the others are fair weather pinch hitters at best up forward who might have a day out if the planets line up but cant tie the position down.
  21. You set a very low pass mark Monty. If the Club is serious then it wont tolerate lairish flaccid half events from any player. He gave us nothing and is going nowhere. Our lack of obvious forward replacements should not save a player that shows not one iota of football sense and focus. Unfortunately we have him contracted into 2010.
  22. Is there anything more cliched or contrived that the post match press conference. Unless you expect an Aurelio Vidmar tirade what do you expect at such a beat up wafer light events?
  23. Bad case of missing the point. His after game behaviour is the domain of the emotive supporter who wants to vent their spleen at something or someone however trivial. In this case its very trivial. The way he played is the issue that should be sticking in people's throats. Seemingly not. Occo's right in that he does have some time to redeem himself. But Sylvia is starting off a very low base of performance. And even his greatest apologists will be shrinking from support if he turns in another game like that.
  24. Aside from McLean and McDonald (who went off in the 1st quarter) which players in the side can actually win the ball in the midfield? We have a lack of quality in the midfield and we have recruited Grimes, Jetta, Bail, Strauss and Blease to address these issues. They are young and then just dont develop overnight. But there were some good signs from Grimes. Good lets get rid of the offending players who 1. cant follow instructions and 2. can't make proper decisions with the ball.(eg Sylvia and Newton). I actually thought for three quarters that the players moved the ball well through the midfield in windy conditions and did show significant intensity at the contest and that to me was a positive. And that there are players who do get the message and can use the ball well. But lets sack the coach anyway.
