  1. The Brownlow is a midfielders award. The only other position that polled well where key forwards in Buddy, Kennedy and Brown.
  2. Interesting read RPFC, but I fear that our supporters will give Goodwin the same treatment that Carlton and Essendon gave Ratten and Knights. Such an in-depth analysis should have been written about Roos' 3 year tenure at the club. IMO, Roos was given a free ride by a large percentage on here simply because of the spin he was able to generate in the media. Goodwin is a 1st year coach who will continue to learn. My expectations were to play finals, so in that respect, I could barely give Goodwin a pass. But we had a horrible run with injuries and suspensions to key players. Tactically, I found him to be more innovative than Roos, but team selection was just as puzzling as it was under Roos. The issues of leadership should have been addressed by Roos. He was the experienced premiership winning coach who we were paying over a $1m a year. Long term, I have faith that Goodwin will become a successful senior coach. I just hope that he doesn't become the media spin-doctor which was Roos.
  3. His natural progression is from GWS NEAFL to Carlton. I'd imagine that he's on big coin and GWS are trying to offload him for next to nothing. I'd still pass.
  4. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Everything he said was pure "Footy Speak". Unless he comes out and says that Watts won't be considered for trade and will be playing at the MFC next year, you can take it that a trade is possible.
  5. The Cats are doing what every club should be doing, and that is trying to improve their list. Ablett cops a lot of crap at the GC because of his lack of leadership, but nobody can deny that he performs on the field. Split his gametime 50/50 between midfield and up forward, and he'll continue to be a superstar at Geelong. I know I'd rather play a Geelong team without Ablett next year than with him. And the term "premiership window" is old hat. Not in your wildest dreams could you imagine the Dogs winning a flag last year, and potentially the Tigers winning it this year. Let's stop trying to predict the rise and fall of other clubs, and worry about our own backyard.
  6. So you don't think that the nature and the timing of the puff piece was poor? Most supporters (obviously not all) are still hurting from our rd 23 loss to the Pies. Who cares what happened on QB.
  7. And apart from looking like a [censored], wtf does it achieve? We lost to the same opposition in round 23, which cost us a place in the finals. How [censored]'n stupid is he to agree to it?
  8. Goodwin was on SEN morning show on Friday. Was asked about the Watts and Salem rumours. Basically said that they won't talk about our trade intentions publically. He added that they would talk with the players involved whether the rumours are true or not. He was asked the question of whether you structure your forward line based on what you have, or on how you'd like it to look. His answer was a bit of both, but you predominently work with the strengths you have. He then went on to say that we have assets in Petracca as a power forward, and Hogan and T Mac as key forwards with running ability. Pretty clear that T Mac will be played up forward next year. That would suggest that Lever is already penned into our backline. No mention of Watts as a forward asset. Make of it what you like
  9. Or even free up a spot for category B players like Maynard and Smith, who've both shown early signs of potentially cracking into best 22. We should only be trading for players who you could imagine playing round 1 in the seniors next year.
  10. No it doesn't. It means we give a 1st round pick, Jack Watts and a 3rd round pick. Unless we got Collingwood's 2nd round pick back, it's daylight robbery.
  11. Oh dear. I think you should pre-empt any rumour with the source. Then we can just ignore the details.
  12. That's not necessarily relevant to his currency on the open market. The players' age and the role they play becomes a factor. As an example, the Weid wouldn't rate in our top 25, but that doesn't mean he's only worth a third round pick on the open market. The Crouch brothers would have only broken into the Crows top 10 this year, and they've been in the system for a while. And as much as I love Rory Laird, the role he plays would never command a high 1st rd pick.
  13. Why keep a player who won't play senior football ahead of a rookie listed player who could be a potential star? Garland is just dead wood on our list.
  14. I'd love to have a wager with you on both. He won't be at the Dogs, and they won't get a super super deal.
  15. Recall seeing Balic star in an Under 18's Championship game. Thought he'd be a top 20 pick at the least. Just went back and looked at some of his highlights packages from 2015. There's nothing about his game that stands out in a positive way other than being an accumulator of the ball. But on the downside, either his problems with wrist injuries prevent him from tackling, or he is the worst tackler I have seen. Take at look at his highlights package for The Academy against the Allies:
  16. Then how can the AFL manipulate the competition for it's own benefit, Tom Scully, Chris Judd, cough, cough!!!. The reality is, clubs need to put work into a prospective recruit at least 6 months in advance. The re-negotiation of existing contracts can't all be done in trade week. They need to plan if they intend landing a big fish. The Storm have never been in a position to sign a big-name player from another club because a large chunk of it's salary cap has been locked into Smith, Cronk and Slater for the past 10-12 years.
  17. I'd be interested to know whether the JW supporters would be keen on us getting Motlop. IMO, they are excatly the same. Both have undoubted talent, but pick and choose when they want to apply it. The only reason I wouldn't trade JW is because I don't believe he has any currency. Clubs outside the eight would be looking at a 150 game new recruit to provide leadership. And of the teams to play finals, I can't see one that would be a good fit. I think we're stuck with him.
  18. Whilst I agree with you, Gibbs is contracted, and Carlton don't want to lose him. They can put whatever price on his head they like. Which is why I'd leave Carlton out of any trade scenarios when it comes to Lever. Deal directly with the Crows, and get it done early.
  19. A F's point still stands because Priddis was picked up late in the rookie draft, as was McGovern, and before them Cox.
  20. When you read the article, it seems like Stringer is in denial. Starts off by saying that he was shocked and upset, and that he had a good season. The rest is just fluff.
  21. I think it's beyond doubt that Lever has told the Crows of his intentions to leave, and by the sound of things, he's also told them that Melbourne is his club of choice. Would love the deal to get done early in trade week, and save us the anxiety of thinking the deal will fall through.
  22. Doubt it. They still have a core of top end talent in McGovern, Kennedy, Shuey, NikNat, Yeo and Gaff. They regularly pick up a gun smokey from the draft, and poach WA born players with a go-home factor. Plus, they'll continue to win their share of home games with the umpire bias. The inclusion of Mitchell this year was actually detrimental to the Eagles. Couldn't play in the same team as Priddis and Masten. The dynamics of the Eagles could improve without Mitchell and Priddis. And NikNat is huge to their success.
  23. What if he's been dabbling in illicit substances and is on 2 strikes? There is only so much DD uncovers. And the Stringer that McCartney coached could be a different person to the Stringer now. People change.
