  1. I have a feeling he was omitted from the side. When you think about it last week the sub wasn't going to be Salem or JKH again, riley was the only other real option for the sub and I don't think he's game really suits it. I think maybe they went for Toumpas knowing he could play as the sub and provide more run than riley.. Just a thought
  2. Well first 10 -15 mins of the first quarter we were 25 to 0 in the end we lose by 20.. We basically won the game from that point on. We can't be too critical of our boys, yes we were coming off a bye, yes port was coming off a tough game last week but they are probably the fittest side in AFL history not withstanding there the top side in the comp. I'm disappointed we couldn't come away with the 4 points but seriously we have come a long long LONG way. For us to outplay the form/top side of the comp for 3 quarters is an achievement in itself. Another 10 games this year and pre-season under roosy and we'll really start seeing what this side can produce. It's good were disappointed with the result which means we all have expectations of this side week in, week out!
  3. You taking the p-i-ss ? Don't think in a million years a ruckmen would be sub let alone Jamar!
  4. Could there be something in NUDGE's post... Obviously Mitch had other things contributing to his ill health but he was been weighed down heavily by the large contract he was on and felt as though he was letting the club down. Could there be a theory in that he retired, organised a payout so IF he was fit & healthy & could make a return that he wouldn't be on such a large contract and if things failed again it he wouldn't feel like he was letting the club down... Also when he retired at the time I thought he'd be packed up and moved home to perth within weeks, from what I see on social media etc he is still in melbourne ? I know his health and well being is first and foremost but we can't help but hold out hope that there could be any signs of a comeback...
  5. Here's hoping you have some inside knowledge, i won't get my hopes up but if this happens I'd be over the moon! Firstly for Mitch & secondly the club!
  6. I've had it with this MRP.. They are an absolute joke. How does Dawes slap someone in the face in play and get 2 weeks down to 1 and then ablett throws an elbow at someone behind play and get off scot free... Along with lecreas bump a few weeks ago getting one week, it's a disgrace and the AFL has got to do something about it.
  7. I have heard from a reasonable source from someone back in Perth who has a lot to do with football that John Worsfold has moved to melbourne and is keen on coaching again. Supposedly his presence is the richmomd job if it becomes available, if not he wants the melbourne job
  8. How good is it to have the love for footy & winning back. I was out walking the dog this morning listening to SEN and to hear people talking melbourne up and praising them bought a smile to my face and put a spring in my step. For this first time since the mid 2000's we are a club with some passion and direction and I couldn't be happier. The last few years I've gone to the MCG and almost dreaded going knowing what the result would be, now I can't wait for each week to roll past so I can get to the G to watch the boys and when they run out through the banner with the theme song belting out I know what I'm going to get from the 22 players. I'm excited for the second half of this year and beyond, bring it on! Go Dees.
  9. What really stood out once again for me last night was our poor use of the footy by hand and foot, especially in the back half. I think with one of our top picks this year we have to pick up a strong bodied half back in the Grant Birchall mould who can use the footy well. We need to go down the Hawthorn route and draft players who can kick. Our turnovers are what's killing us, in this day & age of football you can't afford turnovers especially in your defensive half. Apart from that I'm happy with the way we are going, it may not be pretty but we are at least staying in the game for longer. I go to the footy now excited to see what we dish up and that's a lot different to previous years where I've dreaded going to witness yet another massacre.
  10. That relationship is long gone, the way daff was treated was a joke and he was furious with the club. He was working part time at Richmond not sure if he still is or not.
  11. I have wrote this in the post match thread but I think it deserves a thread of its on. What is going on with our kick ins ? Its driving me insane. We have been the worst side at it since the Daniher era. Ever since they bought in the not waiting for the flag rule it has become even worse because every side bar us grab the ball and move it within 5 seconds of a point been kicked and before the opposition can set a zone up and the balls cleared. We wait for a player (usually Dunn) to slowly jog over grab the ball and by the time he does this the whole front half of the ground is zoned up. I would love to know the stats in regards to direct scores from our kick ins. We saw when we moved it quickly how beneficial it is, I think JKH got on the end of a quick kick in and goaled and the last goal of the game from dawes came as quick movement. We have had numerous coaches since Daniher but yet none have been able to rectify this part of our game, I honestly think its a prime example of players not working hard enough. They don't work hard into space, or to create space for other teammates, they just stand there and point at eachother. Resulting in us to kick long and hope the ball gets knocked out of bounds and then its a 50/50 ball(probably worse knowing our clearance rate) from a throw in. It is a serious part of our game we must improve because in a game like yesterday it can make the difference between a win & a loss.
  12. What really frustrated me was our continue inability to kick the ball in well & quickly. We are the worst side in the comp at it, every other side grabs the footy and goes straight away before the opposition can set up any zone, mostly the balls kicked outside 50 and out of the danger zone. We wait for someone (usually Dunn) to slowly jog over pick the footy up n by the time he goes to kick the whole front half of the ground is zoned up.. I'd love to see our opposition scores for direct kick ins. Another thing that really [censored] me off was when N. Jones kicked the goal to kick back within 13 points he came off and for some stupid, idiotic reason, pedersen & spencer both ended up inside the centre bounce. Pedersen started as a rover and gave away the free whichever resulted in Omeras kick at goal, albeit on the full but that is in excusable at the 15-20 minute mark of the last qrt, 2 goals down and we can't figure out the right structure in the middle. Was also interesting to note when N.Jones went off after that goal he didn't come back on for another 3-4 minutes, in that time ablett & swallow both goaled and when he came back on we kicked 2 goals in quick succession.
  13. Very sad for Mitch. A huge loss for the footy club not just on the field but off it also. I wish him all the best in his journey back to full fitness. I just can't help but think we wont see him move back to Perth and get himself sorted and pull on a dockers jumper. I hope for Mitch's sake he can get back to playing footy but for us melbourne supporters it would be a bitter pill too swallow .
  14. There is some talk around that he may want out of Brisbane come years end. He is a Benalla boy, so just wondering what peoples thoughts are on maybe offering up pick 2 for Rockliff and say a Patrick Karnezis who wants to return home to Melbourne...Karnezis had a very good NAB cup series through the midfield and wasn't given as much of a go during the early rounds. I rate Rockliff in probably the top 20-25 midfielders in the comp. With Brisbane desperate for a key forward maybe they will be looking to get into the draft a bit earlier and hoping for young Tom Boyd to be come available at pick 2.
