Farewell Clayton Oliver
The level disrespect this exhibits towards Max Gawn is appalling. Dragged the club and him through hell and this is his response. Immature. Petulant. A disgrace.

Farewell Clayton Oliver
My view has evolved a lot over the past 12 months, especially these last few weeks. I was absolutely on board with supporting Clayton through his issues, and aggressively pushed back against anyone who said he was an adult and needed to get on with it. Mental health is complex. But it’s still a two way street. Just because I’m prepared to support you doesn’t mean you can take advantage in perpetuity. There needs to be growth, and and intent to repay that support. Clayton’s reaction to this alleged meeting shows he still has a long way to go. We supported him when his issues were most acute, now we need to give him our blessing and move on. The club can’t be held hostage to his troubles forever.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
While I was 100% behind the club supporting Oliver through his issues, I’m now 100% behind the club making the players accountable for their own actions. The club comes first, and the attitudes from both Petracca and Oliver (in this instance and all prior) suggest it’s them first, then the club.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
So King effectively told him that he’s not playing to the level, that he has to earn his place in the team and instead of taking it as a challenge to get better, he cracked the sads and went straight to the media to throw us under the bus. Got it. Shocking attitude, he can go.

I’m actually quite positive Petracca if Buckley is coach. Remember he was a pies fan growing up, so I imagine Buckley is one of his heroes.. if anyone can put the acid on him, then it’s Buckley who would naturally command his respect. Perhaps more than any other. In fact, with that in mind, I see a case to make him the next captain under Buckley.

POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
I understand the emotion around it because I find it very frustrating as well, he’s just not anywhere near as physical as he used to be. Good reason to get a new coach, find someone who can motivate him again. And Oliver, the kids etc Bye bye 2025.. one of the most disheartening seasons of recent memory.

Simon Goodwin Sacked
Over the past 24 hrs I’ve had this nagging feeling that we made the wrong call, despite believing we had to do it… That interview helped ease my concerns. If that is representative of the broader feeling among the players, then hopefully the damage to the playing group is contained. Finding myself quite anxious about this weekends game.. would be so disappointing to be blown off the park.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Fair enough, maybe I’m not giving him enough credit. I otherwise agree with the sentiment. I hate the stuff you see in media/socials about the Petracca, Gawn etc feeling sorry for them for the way the club is performing. They’re leaders.. it’s on them as much as anyone. And so the sentiment around coach loyalty is similar I suppose. Ie. You’re highly paid, elite players.. if you’re [censored] about the coach getting sacked, well then that’s on you for not delivering as a leader, and one of the teams better players.

I’m surprised there is a lack of concern about Kozzy in these parts, given he signed a long term contract allegedly in part because of his relationship with goody. If nothing else, we have worked hard to make this a family for him, so destabilisation would surely only exacerbate his homesickness. Of course I know we have him under contract, but wait for the media frenzy. We may get a big haul back for him if he was to force his way out.. but I would vomit in my mouth every weekend to see him playing in oppo colours.

Simon Goodwin Sacked
This place is toxic. Thousands and thousands of posts on sacking Goodwin, gets sacked, and in response thousands of posts on how much of a joke the club is. The club can’t win. Maybe us supporters should be looking in the mirror a bit too. Love you goody, thanks for some fantastic memories. Enter Longmire please.

I have to say, I’ve been withholding from saying this for weeks, but might as well just say it now.. I really don’t like the Sack Goody thread. I understand why it exists, it’s a reasonable discussion, but reading through it sometimes all I see is spite, and anger. Goodwin presided over a great time for our club, during a very difficult period. For several years there we were standard setters, and if not for poor kicking on the day, and a career ending hit to one of our favourite sons.. who knows, maybe we would’ve got our MCG premiership. I feel like that gets forgotten too much on that thread, as it does in this discussion. I’ve come around to the notion that Goody needs to go, but I will also respect him immensely for what he gave us and feel uncomfortable with the way he is often spoken about in this place.

But you can’t put the cart before the horse. It would be inappropriate for him to cast doubt on the coach’s position without due process, there would be a feeding frenzy in the press.

Felt he just needed to say something I guess. Clearly he’s been overwhelmed with feedback and wanted to acknowledge it. I don’t mind it. Will see what comes now..

Would you prefer he didn’t write one? What would you have said instead?

What’s he supposed to say..? I appreciate the acknowledgement and thought the absence of outward support for Goody as head coach was telling

POSTGAME: Rd 14 vs Port Adelaide
Do we need to talk about Viney and Oliver being back in the side together again, at the same time Rivers turns in to a pumpkin and we become the butcher again? Shocking, and yet wholly unsurprising disposal from Oliver/Viney

PREGAME: Rd 11 vs Sydney
Upfront I’ll admit I have a soft spot and may be a touch blinkered. But.. I just think he does a lot of things that don’t get noticed. It’s what he does without the ball, as they say. And, when he has the ball he rarely does the wrong thing.. I like the notion of Brown for defensive pressure, but I’d be a lot more comfortable with the ball in Spargo’s hands that Kynans.

PREGAME: Rd 09 vs Hawthorn
By placeholder I meant he’s not the future. He’s there to shepherd the next generation through.. Otherwise agree, he’s been terrific.

PREGAME: Rd 09 vs Hawthorn
As much as I’ve been a fan of Melky this year, the reality is he’s a placeholder.. we need to find out what we have in Jefferson. Big games coming up for both him and JVR in the context of their careers.

My 3 word player analysis V WC
And that is Spargo. Has never got it a lot, but when he is around the ball, good things generally happen. Underrated on here imo.

PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Fremantle
What you just know you’ll get from Tholstrup is energy and enthusiasm. Given how we’re playing, if for no other reason, you get him in for that.

PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Fremantle
Are you serious? JVR has been garbage. Hot, garbage. Calling his manager? Go for it, he’ll probably get told to pull his head in and play better
