I hate using this expression, but Petty is soft. Doesn’t want it, doesn’t want the contest. Can’t play again. JVR playing young… immature tactically, immature physically.

Sure, but they had speed and kicking talent through the midfield. We have Oliver, and Viney.. god love them.

I mean say what you want about the game, but we have no forward line.. none. No key position player, no talls. Van Rooyen looks barely a VFL player. No team is winning with that. And then you add Petty…

Van Rooyen a mile off. Fritsch.. some of the decisions. Not a half forward. Petty was responsible for at least 2 goals in the 4Q. Oliver, viney same story.. hack forward. Tackles slipping everywhere.

Don’t how you can argue with that after the display put out tonight. Plenty of vfl performances out there tonight

Sort of my point really.. if he’s not getting separation then at least don’t get outmarked. Put your knee in the back of someone.. just don’t let them mark it and bounce straight back out. From what I understand about AJ, you can rely on him to do that!

Also worth stating that I was bitterly disappointed in Rooey’s game today.. it says something when we really missed AJ, a first year mature age recruit. When it was clear the ball wasn’t coming to him he just needed to be hitting packs, bringing the ball to ground and giving us a chance inside 50. Failed to do it.. felt like he was looking for the easy option a lot

McVee, Windsor, Pickett, Moniz… speed and skill. All desperately missed today

They’re unmarked because we are rightly running forward when one of our players kicks it directly to the opposition. Then all of our players are caught offside.. easiest goals in the world

Everyone goes on about Goodwin, but he can’t help viney absolutely, totally, completely, butchering the ball going i50 time and time and time and time again. Shocking stuff

Soft maybe.. but certainly lacking the defensive intensity, or intent.

Did feel like our ball pressure was way off, very reactive and often falling off tackles. The ease with which they’ve been able to transition the ball needs to be addressed. Conversely, our D50 transition is shocking. Will be a hard slog all game if we can’t start getting some run off the back. Really missing the likes of Pickett, Windsor and McVee

Wasn’t going to watch the game thinking it would end becoming a glorified trial for freo.. but in my thirst for real footy I flicked it on for a quick look, ended up watching the whole thing.. thought it was a really entertaining hit out, and they should rotate the games around the league each year. Was also really enthused by kozzys running and defensive pressure, also just feels like he’s growing in to a bit of a leader. Really looking forward to see what he does for the dees this year..

I don’t think we’re in anywhere near as bad shape as many would suggest. Given the disruptions of last year, I fully expect us to make finals this year. But if not, does it herald a grim few years of rebuilding? Not at all in my view.. I’ve been very enthused by the talent we’ve added over the last few years in particular, and seen us rebuilding on the fly.

In fact, going through his instagram right now, it would appear he has a long history of putrid salad. Someone needs to have a word with the lad.

I had a wonderful, pressure relieving epiphany a few days ago. All we supposedly know, is what the mostly detestable media pundits have told us, and given my general distrust of said pundits, I really actually know very little at all.. I’m sure there is truth to everything we’ve heard, but who actually knows but the club, and the player. In any case, anything we have heard has become pained and distorted either with intent by Morris, Cornes et al, or by us, in our Dees obsessed, fanatical handwringing. It’s caused me to stop scrutinising and dissecting every shred of info. Pure bliss.

It creates an image about Oliver to me.. 2 days ago: “I love the club, owe them a debt.” 2 days later: Shown some pretty paddocks and told he’s the best… “oh that sounds awesome I want to do that” 2 short planks come to mind. Infuriating. Just one long shambles. I just want to support my footy team, not deal with all the drama.

If what I say above proves accurate.. the thing I would hate about it the most is it would prove Cornes right.. Sickening.

You know.. I’m finding myself increasingly moving in this direction. Maybe he has been the root of all problems culturally for several years now and we need to accept the short term pain to move forward for the next 5 years and beyond. I’m also a little surprised at how outraged I’ve felt. He was not good this year.. and even when he was winning the ball, he was blindly throwing the ball on his boot, inevitably to an opposition player who would rebound the other way. Time and again. Opposition teams could rely on it. Maybe him moving on will allow us to reset the culture. Maybe it is what is needed to satisfy Petracca. And maybe it will go some way to fixing our offensive issues. I don’t know.. but maybe it would turn out to be the right thing..?
