This is what Pert had to say on SEN Demons chief executive Gary Pert said the club had planned for the event of a Covid outbreak but admitted it was still a waiting game to see if any more players tested positive. “We had scenario planned before the season started, we knew at some stage these things would happen,” Pert said on SEN. “It’s been handled very calmly … I think we are still looking very strong for the weekend. “We will still have to wait and see. It’s one of those things, each day the players are testing and you just have your fingers crossed. “So we’ll wait and see if anything else happens today, they are not training. “It’s a day to day thing, we knew that this would happen at some stage during the year and you be prepared for it.” Pert hoped the short-term pain now could prevent any more issues deeper into the season. “Most of the players in the pre-season and the early parts of the season have already had Covid,” Pert said. “The players now that have got it are some of the last players and we were very aware that Goody and some of the coaches hadn’t had it. “So in some ways, while it’s a bit uncomfortable this week, maybe it’s a good thing as we get further into the season that more of the players and coaches are now going through this now.” Pert said the club had put in place “strict rules” above the league and government protocols since the pre-season to help limit potential spread. “We have been very strict the whole pre-season up until this stage, which is why we have still had quite a few of our players not get it until this point,” Pert said. ”Anyone that has symptoms is either at home or not even part of the meetings or interactions with others and that goes for players or staff members. “We don’t have any non-essential staff within the football program during the week or on game day. “We have put in place pretty strict rules, way over the top of what the state government or the AFL have put in place and this has really been our first little bit of an outbreak.”

Max (early in this interview) confirms that Bedford does indeed live with Jacko and Kozzy and has so far been one of the only players to dodge COVID and is still COVID free and has moved out temporarily from the shared house. Max also confirmed that players do RAT tests at home before they leave for training.

He is right to have his opinion and I think many posters have reasonably shown that opinion to be misguided.

Spot on. This is simply a case of bad timing. I think all can agree that Yze would be the perfect replacement for Goody but due to the current circumstances of which ironically Yze is a big part of creating he will most likely get a gig elsewhere before the opportunity arises at the Dees. That is our loss but not something that is viable at this time.

Are you suggesting Yze will “walk” because he is disgruntled or “walk” for the opportunity to further his career?

Exactly. Which makes the possibility of him leaving for a senior role more likely. It has zero to do with being under-appreciated as the OP suggested.

If we “lose” Yze it will have absolutely nothing to do with being under-appreciated and everything to do with him having learned at the feet of two Premiership coaches, being one of the best assistants going around and deserving the shot at a senior coaching gig. It is very probable that Goody will get a contract extension and deservedly so after winning a Premiership. Therefore it is more likely that Yze will at some point Interview for a vacant senior coaching role and possibly get the gig. We all would love for a beloved ex-player to return to the club and coach us however the timing is not right and who are we to begrudge him from seeking to further his career if the opportunity arises. Yze came back at the start of 2021. The only way he’d be coaching us now or in the short term would be for Goody and the team to have spectacularly failed. Would you have preferred that outcome?

If tested positive today they could have been contagious yesterday.

If that is the case and Luke and Toby have COVID then that means that Oliver will almost certainly be out this week too.

A: If they’re playing the Demons at the G off a five-day break, there are no comebacks. They simply won’t come back! That’s the short form preview of the Melbourne v Hawthorn match up at the Home of Football this weekend. That is not to dismiss the young Hawks’ prospects but the way each team’s ANZAC Round games unfolded does not bode well for them. I have a gut feeling that these opening bursts from the Hawks are restricted to public holidays and to when they play teams other than Melbourne. They can try to take the game on but they won’t get away with it this week and it wouldn’t help them either way because the effort required would see the life sucked out of them much earlier than usual. More bad news for Hawthorn is the fact that Jake Lever and Jack Viney have been declared available for the game after sitting out last week due to health and safety protocols, meaning that two of the club’s strongest weapons one defensive and the other attacking, will come into the side well rested and up for the fight. Handy replacements for Luke Jackson, Harry Petty, Kysaiah Pickett and Tom Sparrow who miss this week after testing positive for Covid19. And Jake Melksham should be highly motivated now that he’s been called in to replace Nibbler. The other factor that needs to be remembered is that while the statistics of last week’s Melbourne game were well below par because of the poor shooting for goal, the optics remained a high point in terms of the work rate, the system and the endeavour. All of these things will operate on Saturday evening to ensure that, for the Hawks, there will be no repeat of their late 2021 heroics and no comebacks. Melbourne to win by 23 points.
