New Draft Rule Confirmed

A player who is not contracted on or before October 31 will now be eligible to nominate for that year's National Draft

Whose coming out of contract at the end of the year for the Dee's and what other prospects are there at other clubs?

I don't truly understand the consequence of this change, an explanation would be great?

Isn't it only the PSD where players can set their desired contract?

Anyone decent and worth more than the basic wage would probably stick to the PSD I'd assume.

It appears to give some credit to the free agency discussion that the Players Association has been raising.

Therefore if a player is not signed up by the deadline he can nominate and be drafted in the National Draft ahead of the Pre Season Draft.

the consequence is only delisted players could nominate for the national draft, if a player couldn't come to terms with their club, then they would have to wait for the PSD... now they have the option of nominating for the national draft too...

The interesting thing will be to see whether a player, once nominating for the ND, can subsequently withdraw their nomination. If they can withdraw, there will be some brinkmanship going on on both sides post nomination.

If they can't withdraw (and restraint of trade laws would have some involvement; but I imagine that the rules can be drafted to overcome it) then it will be a big step because they could go anywhere without warning (unlike the PSD where most have a fair idea what is happening).
