FFS Wheels has only had 1 or 2 games back from injury. Hes got quite a few more rounds in him yet.

    On the previous site I had argued that we should have done the following:

    2004 Traded Yze and TJ. Let Bizzell go the PSD.

    2005 Traded White, Robbo

    2006 Not traded for Pickett.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

    Lets me just say, TJ was a pretty averarge #1 selection all those years ago...

    After 10 yeras of service, we trade him for selection 12 who we draft Jack Grimes......

    Dont know how J Grimes will turn out but i think we ended up ok out of this... don't you???

    Whelan is one of the more important players in our team. If he can play good football for the remainder of the year and dispel concerns over his recent injuries he'd be one of the first I'd be signing up.

    For sure TJ was a massive bomb and arguably the worse #1 going around but to get pick #12 10 years later for the dud not that bad....

    there is no doubt that the Lions overpaid us for the services for TJ.. However i understand we are paying a portion of his contract, which is just stupid and half the reason we are so poor...

    I bet you are one of those posters who said Judd was coming to Melbourne, Bartram would never play again, Argus would be the next president etc etc...

    The kid has had a couple of injuries early, I think it's way too soon to rub him out of the future.

    The problem is that we held onto TJ for too long with his mediocre output rather than trading him for more into better drafts. If we had made the call 4 years ago we would potentially have a cherry ripe 4yr experienced player. No offence to Grimes but TJ just blocked the development of other players while he plateaued at MFC.

    Brisbane are paying market for TJ. We are still paying the surplus.

    Woey was signed on a ridiculous back ended contract in 2000 which increased in $$$ each year as his performance decreased. A brave and correct decision was made to offload and invest in talent that would provide us with upside. Its a pity we stopped doing that with other players.

    And for correction we did not pay out recently departed CEO (and not Chairman).

    Our recruiting has been disgraceful since we made the Grand Final we have relyed on these players for far too long. It was hidden to some extent when we recruited Davey and McLean and Rivers stood up in 04.

    We can't rely on our 18 - 22 year olds they just need to create some excitement and establish themselves in the team.

    Our core players need to be the 23 - 27 year olds and this list is extreamly poor.

    (this is the age they are or will be by the end of the year)

    23: Bell,Sylvia

    24: P.Johnson,Moloney,Rivers,Warnock

    25: Davey,Jamar,Miller

    27: Green,Wheatley

    I would like to see Geelong's core list compared to us.

    Our rule on not recruiting anyone over 23 seems to be another poor decision when you look at this poor excuse for a core list. We were always going to be at least 3 - 5 years away.

    The 28 year olds and older should be the icing on the cake but they are always needed to win the games for us and they just can't do it any more.

      From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

      Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

      The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
