Dees Playing 2 short yesterday

Did anyone else notice the number of times yesterday Carlton was smashing us down the Southern Stand wing whilst we had 2 players running 100m to our bench for another 2 players to run another 100m to get to the play by which state, they were buggered and need to be rotated themselves?!

This whole 'keep the rotations high' interchange thing is killing me! I watched the bench all day and all I saw was confusion. Twice I saw a player run to the bench, out of play to be turned around and be sent back out!

Thoughts? Am I the only one who feels like we played 2 men short for most of yesterday?

We were. I read with disappointment before the game that White and Jamar were selected to play but I didnt see them.

Yes I did notice that. Very frustrating but I think it was a tactic. Often the bloke coming on would not run straight to the play but linger on the otherside of the ground waiting for the switch. Didn't work but.

I also noticed often someone would run to the bench and they'd be nobody ready to come on!

Agree entirely .. watched this with interest yesterday and confusion reigns .. Green off immediately after kicking a goal to actually put us in front .. Sylvia coming off with no-one ready to replace him .. players running back onto the field looking back to the bench for instructions about who they are supposed to be playing on .. ridiculous

....and Bell made 3 , so we only had 19 on the team sheet !

I noticed it as well.

In the first quarter Whelan ran faster and further to the bench than he had during the game and Bell ran fifty metres on to the ground before being turned back.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
