We will win more than 5 games so no prority pick for us.

Richmond at the minute looks like Natinui favs, but hey they've won one more game than us.

Carlton have an awful defence and Judd, Stevens, Murphy, and co. don't man up so they'll have their blowouts. But Fev and Judd will win them 5 - 8 games IMO.

Thought about this and after the improved performance last week (Geelong was down a bit but their errors weren't 'fatal errors' - errors that directly lead to goals - like ours. Note: Carroll handball, Jones kick, White spoil, White squib etc.) I really think that we won't bottom out. And with a new coach that wants to impress, the 150th year, and the building pressure of the new media narrative - 'Melbourne is in dire straits' - we should continue to be competitive.

I have seen him play and athletically he's a freak but as a footballer he's miles behind AFL standard.

Be careful or Melbourne will become Carlton on the field - 20 million top 10 draft picks and still can't win a game

Then why is he playing league footy for Swan Districts?

Oh..please I agree.. certainly drawing a short straw isnt it !!

but then again is it a lot differnt for the many ( not the elite that would walk in to a game early in first season) playing in say the VFL down here..or SANFL etc... I acknowledge not quite on par.. but its similar effect.

I think you're right re: many, particularly if they're picked up as bottom age players. Not great, but not terrible.

However, if you're a young gun, it'd be a cruel blow.

Then why is he playing league footy for Swan Districts?

Because, like I said initially, he's a freak athlete.

Even all the recruiters have said he's still got miles to go before his skills are that of an AFL player, but because of his physical abilities he'll be given time by whatever club gets him.

Remember he's a 196cm ruckman. Only ones I can think of off the top of my head that are shorter . . . Jeff White and Cameron Cloke. Granted he's likely to grow to a couple of cm but even then it's well short of Cox (204cm), Sandilands (211cm) and the like.

If he gets tried in a key position post and doesn't look like a fish out of water then he'll go #1 for sure, otherwise there are still a couple of doubts about his game like any athlete-turned-footballer

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
