Stefan Martin and Shane Valenti

My two got up. Suggested these two very early in the season.

I am somewhat surprized Martin was taken as our PSD. Given that we didn't take Sampi, we must have not wanted Gourdis, as we could have had him with our last draft pick and still taken Martin as a Rookie.

Seems a good mix of types picked.

Anyway I am not in recruiting just an observer, so I wish all of the boys taken good luck with their careers.

I think the Dees were possibly hoping Sampi would come up to scratch and so couldnt take the last pick. Im happy AS wasnt picked..but only as he hasnt got over the line with ticking all the boxes..He does have talent.. ..scuh is life.

Wil be a bit weird I suspect for the Beach Rd boys to walk over the line to officially red and blue.. good luck to them. Willo got to keep his boys !! :)

I wanted Stefan Martin @ the dees & to a leesser extent wanted valenti as well. also thought paterakis would have been worth rookieing although i don't know if he was listed. Alltogether very happy with the finalising of our drafting for '07.

i have heard reliably that Essendon were regularly attending/spying on Melbourne's training sessions in the last 2 weeks for the sole purpose of getting a look at Stefan Martin.

they wouldv picked him up at PSD pick 8, but since he was gone they went for a different ruckman in Bellchambers.

Martin has huge potential being new to the game of afl. hopefully he continues to develop.

just thought ppl would like to know that theres a reason we picked him up in the psd and didn't wait till the rookie draft.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
