New rumour

I am not one to spread unfounded rumours, but I have just heard a good one. My source (who is very close to an Essendon player's family), shall remain unnamed.

The proposed deal is that Melbourne take Ricky Dyson in exchange for Chris Johnson, in a rare player for player swap.

My original reaction was pretty skeptic, as I think they are two pretty similar type of players. But now that I think about it Dyson would be a good pick up. He's quick with very good disposal. The question is whether its a fair trade??

Thoughts?

we would do well to get him.

i like dyson as he can play the game and is a genuine ball carrier

ricky dyson just signed a one year deal i think?

Thats strange, cos Dyson just signed a 1 year deal with th Bombers

The differance is, Ricky Dyson actually showed something, Chris Johnson has shown nothing. Why would the Bombers want a dud like cj.

Like I said, I'm just the messenger. Kennedy just signed a two year deal with Carlton as well....and he got moved on.

Dyson is ok. Cj is ok. It is a bit like swapping coke for diet coke. Sure, one has less calories, but they both still stain your teeth!

Is it really worth it? May as well run another season with Cj and see how he goes now that the backline depth has thinned out. A new coach blooding youth will allow CJ to make an error or two, so he might start to develop.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
