The last item on your list, the AFL premiership, could be the DIFFICULT one. I remember a team which dominated the competition, was unbackable favourites for the flag in 1958 but got beaten by Colli#$@%*. Can't think of its name. The captain I remember was a bloke called Barassi! Aren't all you young posters so glad you didn't have to contend with that year! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! Whispering Jack and I and a few others are still trying to come to terms with that result.

you dont know how good you had it bobby! i'd kill to see us lose the grand final every year. it sure beats finishing 14th!

If you were unfortunate enough to witness '58, it means you at least did get to witness the early 60s...

Well the brownlow is still being counted (Judd votes in the first 6 rounds!) so they can still win the brownlow to add to the list,

but 'winning it all' - hmm, who actually won the Coleman? Was it Mooney?

Reminds me of a guy last week on SEN wondering if he could get a bet on Geelong winning everything. I wanted to ring in and say yeah I'd take that bet since he's already lost it.

A question brought up by my 9 year old, has this ever happened - Brownlow and Grand Final and Norm Smith all to the one person in one year. She actually wondered about Rising Star as well but I said no that wouldn't have happened.

Demon Dave, I was even luckier than that. I witnessed 1955,56,57,59 60 and 64.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
