Death, taxes and rain at W training.

I’ve not got an umbrella so I sincerely hope Wallbanger and/or Slarti-fart has one and doesn’t mind sharing. That way, at least I’ll have a use for them 😁

No one rehabbing. The entire group is out there but that’s probs because they’re just stretching for now. I guess when they get into it there’ll be a few on the sidelines.

Getting wet update: no other track-watchers in attendance as yet, more to the point, no track-watchers’ umbrellas as yet. They’ll have a lot to answer for. I might have to suspend their memberships.

If you suffer from Roundballphobia stop reading now. There are soccer balls out there. I thought the boys revelled in it, the girls are next level. It’s all I can do to restrain myself from running out there and joining them 😁

Rehabbers are out here now. Liv is in absolutely awesome spirits. According to Christian (physio) she’s killing it recovery-wise. He said that’s largely due to her determination to be back to her best despite knowing she won’t be right ‘til next season.

Just chatted to Moll. She’s a victim of general soreness 🫡 😝

Was just told something interesting: the club is pushing hard for at least one final at Casey.

I’m guessing the reason might be while we do play really well at Ikon, other teams do too. We play really well at Casey but other teams, not so much.

Gabs broke her wrist punching the ball in a spoil during a scrimmage match. She’s having surgery at season’s end. I assumed this meant she was done for the season but she said they’re keeping her as a “backup” should need be. It means should she be called upon to play, she’ll have a heavily bandaged wrist. Ouch!😩

Idk who was responsible for the playlist this morning but circa 2012/13 must be their jam since I heard more OneRepublic, Avicii and Pharrell Williams than I care to hear. The ear-worms are real and now all I can think about is onesies, Gangnam Style and the word Amazeballs.

I'm 61, could someone please translate this for me? 😁

Think I’d rather get wet than stand under an umbrella with someone called Slarti-fart.

Interesting. I'm assuming if so it would not be a prelim or GF, and most likely the first week of the finals. If we finished second and were to play Hawthorn (but that would necessitate Brisbane failing to beat Collingwood which is unlikely) I'd be all for it as the Hawks have never played there. But if we were to play Brisbane, which is more likely, I don't think it would make much of a difference. From memory they actually have a winning record against us there, including the last two meetings.

The other possibility is second week of finals, but that would mean we'd have to lose in Wk 1 so let's not think about that.

Yeah it’s highly likely we’ll be playing Brisbane in week one and I agree that our home ground advantage is diluted somewhat since the Lions do play well at Casey. But be it Casey or Princes Park, the point is it’s not in Brisbane.

Interesting that you mention "death" Ghosty - had to go to a funeral today. Sorry I couldn't provide you shelter.

I’m so sorry H 😢

It wasn’t your umbrella that I missed today, it was you and the rest of our crew. See you at the game tomorrow night?

This is my fault… I call him Slartifartblast or Slartifart for short, or fart for even shorter 😁

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
