Rehabbers: Lampy, Liv, Radar, Blaithin, Jacinta but…

… not Molly. She’s playing in the match sim right now which is a surprise since she was on crutches less than a week ago. She has one layer of tape just below her knee, other than that she’s looking great.

Lampy says she’s a couple of weeks away “fingers crossed.”

Goal kicking practice now. Hanksy simply does not miss. Molly getting much praise from Paxy. A lot practising of dribblers from the boundary line… makes for very interesting watching 😅

I walked back to AAMI with our awesome coach, Mick. I said, “Mick, I have one request and one request only… please beat Essendon, PLEASE!”

He smiled and said, “You dislike Essendon?”

I said, “Dislike doesn’t come anywhere near it, even Hate isn’t strong enough.”

He said last year’s loss to Essendon was particularly painful and at the team meeting this morning it’s what he used in his address to the players for motivation.

He said he should’ve got me in there to express my feelings about Essendon. I said it wouldn’t be wise since most of our players would end up getting suspended with some even facing criminal charges. 😂

I was shocked that Paul Guerra's email the other day that ended with words to the effect of, "see you at Ikon Park for the game against Essendon" didn't have the addendum "who are dead to me".

Great to see Liv amongst the team. The footy gods owe her, but I reckon she'll come back bigger and better without them.

Blaithin any chance for Friday? Who was the best dribbler?

The women were focused on the AIA field. Plenty of gusty wind about.

O'Hehir passed a test with the trainer and joined the main group. The right calf still has strapping/support on it. Probably unlikely to be named for Friday.

D. Taylor was in full training.

Hose still in rehab as was S.Taylor.

B. Mackin in rehab, and getting plenty of physio work, appeared unlikely for Friday.

Lampard in rehab.

Purcell, no strappings and only a small scar below her knee, was doing micro movements, with short skip throughs at a very low intensity and slowly.

They warmed up, and went into drills, then into their lines. Mids working on stoppages from ball ups. The backline, drilling with the forwards, from outside the 50 arc to inside it.

The sims were taken seriously, with good intensity, and pressure on the ball. Rigoni did the run through connection and kicked into the forwards, though missed a few as she was too direct. The good ball users, Hanks, Paxy, McNamara hit up with the better angles. The talls were marking well. Bannan with plenty of touches and Harris playing well.

After the sims they went for goal kicking.

The general vibe was joyful and they were getting down to business.

The Gosch’s Paddock was getting covered in some fertiliser and there seems to be two large piles, one soil, the other sand that will probably used to topdress the area.

Liv and Fitzy definitely the best dribblers. Blaithin not too shabby either. Radar not so much 😅 She had everyone laughing at her comments just before kicking, stuff like “everyone cover your head, this could go anywhere!” And even warning the girls on the other side of the ground to watch out for wayward balls. But she never gave up, she practiced for ages. The goal kicking coach (idk his name) is absolutely awesome. He gives clear instructions and shows the girls how to correct/tweak their technique etc. He has a group of five or six at a time and doesn’t miss watching a single shot from any of them.

Blaithin said likely not this Friday but she’ll know tonight. Grace B also said she’s maybe another week away. Molly also said she’ll know tonight if she’s playing, although she trained fully with the main group. Perhaps they’re being super cautious with her 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for pointing out our CEO’s HUGE mistake. I shall have a stern word with him on Friday 😁

Pencilling in Radar's first AFLW goal as a boundary line dribbler, got it 😉
