Picked up late as a preseason supplemental selection after trialing with the West Coast Eagles, Henderson broke through for an AFL debut in Round 1. For the most part however, he struggled in the VFL but did get a contract extension for a further year.

Tough when you’re picked up as one of the best mids in the VFL, then thrown in at AFL level in a graveyard position you haven’t played much before.

And then told to go back to the VFL to try to perfect that same thankless, often unrewarded position.

Not at all saying the club’s wrong to do this, it obviously makes sense to play him in that high half forward role at VFL level if that’s where he’ll play in the senior team.

Just that it’s hard for him, or anyone, to stand out on the stats sheet when playing it.

Hoping he can get his groin right and have an impact next year.

A poor man's Charlie Spargo based on the evidence to date. I don't really see the point to locking in a 26 year old VFL-standard small forward prior to the draft, particularly given that he struggled to get on the field late in the year. I'm yet to see what traits he possesses that will allow him to thrive at AFL level.
