Possibly something that is overlooked are the childhood allegiances of players as they grew up. We all barrack for teams. Few get to play AFL footy and fewer get to Don the jumper of "their" team.

Looking at the various attributable followings of teams is it any surprise some are favourites,  some less so ?

Yes AFL players are professional  ( in the main ) but passions run deep and should opportunities arise is it any real surprise some feel drawn towards some clubs more than others.

Ours (Dees ) hasn't historically enjoyed the numbers of the 'bigger' clubs

Yes some lads ( now lasses ) have grown up wrapped in red and blue and had childhood dreams realised. There are many times more that wore a different guernsey and sang a different song.

Certainly arnt and never really were.

Almost a destination Club for about 2 seasons until it was discovered that the sales pitch was sleight of hand marketing, no fan base .facilities or off field management.

The word got around when the two mega wage earners wanted out, draft picks left and heart and soul players remembered they families elsewhere

whilst every other club in the league can say "Do you want to drive to out to Casey a couple of times a week" we'll struggle to attract top talent over other clubs.

Not even people who live in Casey want to be in Casey

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
