B & F Who has been our best player so far ?

This years Best and Fairest should be scrapped

Why? Because Bruce would be leading?

You believe that noone in our team has done their best in the fairest manner possible to win matches for us?

Your comments just get more outrageous. Some people are doing their best you know, obviously if everyone in the team was playing their best we couldnt be at the bottom of the ladder. Most people in the team are trying thats what the medal is about. What sort of supporter are you?

Tip for the end of the season has to be Rivers. i think 100% of melbourne supporters appreciate how good he really is, and how he and whelan provide poise in a backline that desperately needs it. I also am amazed at how he leaves his opponent at just the right time to intercept the kick. He becomes an extra player when doing this. Also Jones for a second year player was great on the weekend, and most people around me marvelled at his endeavour and mostly sound decision making. Finally Petterd if he continues this form looks very good. Just great to see a rookie with such calm and confidence.

Honestly YM, that really is just silly.

And there is nothing default about it.

Losing (and we will win sooner or later) doesn't mean that there was no-one working their ass to try and win.

And losing doesn't mean that they (and right now Bell, Bruce, Rivers, Miller and Jones would be in the top few) shouldn't get some recognition of that work.

Good grief.

if only 'wheels' had been on the team. now i am remarkarbly biased towards this man, but i really reckon he's sensational. rated by the club too, he often always misses multiple matches a year but still rates highly in the B and F. i hope he can get back fit and back to his best, would help us out immensely

Bruce would be leading by a short mile.

I would like to see Newton get his chance but who ever gets dropped will be stiff. (Ironic saying that when we are 0-6)

Millers being good in previous weeks and deserves his spot. Maybe Pickett, Sylvia, Warnock.

It would be Bruce considereing he's performed fairly consistently and hasn't missed a game. Rivers has been terrific when he's played, I think we take for granted how good Rivers is.

Brock could probably win it in half a season of football but unfortunately( iknow he has a broken bone at the moment ) i think his career is going to be dogged by soft tissue injuries.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
