I’ll preface this by apologising to Demonland and other mods as this is a shameless plug with not a lot (well, nothing really), to do with footy other than the fact we have the Dees in common. I just know that if I post in the General Discussion forum, it most likely won’t reach the intended audience. However, delete if you see fit.

My band Los Romeos Oxidados are venturing down from Sydney to play at Smith’s Alternative in Alinga St, Civic this Sunday, 3rd April from 4-6pm.  Would love it if any of you could make it… unfortunately Grand Old Flag isn’t on the playlist.

No idea if anyone came as a result of my post (although we did have a good sized turn out), but in case anyone is interested, this is a clip comprising bits of our final three numbers on the day. We’re back again at Smith’s Alternative in Canberra on Saturday 28th May with a local band IL Bruto.

The Dead South are more bluegrass than your outfit hardtack, but thought you might like this.

Yes! I first saw this quite some time ago and immediately loved it. There’s another guy I would like to cover named Dave Acari:

Very nice!   That steel guitar has done many, many miles by the look of it.

That first song reminds me a lot of John Hiatt's "Your Dad Did" off his excellent "Bring The Family" album.

Did you ever get into Seasick Steve?   I bought a "Best Of" CD but he seems to lack something I can't quite define.

No, unfortunately I didn’t. Acari, to my ears, I’d like an Irish Tom Waits… but I do get what you mean about the Hyatt similarity.

Melbourne have held talks with Clayton Oliver and they’ve laid out where he fits in under Steve King’s vision and been frank about expectations. Oliver is still under contract for five years, but the door is open if he wants to explore his options elsewhere.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
