Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Kangas go down after a 50 metre penalty is given as 40

Shannon Grant was given a 50 against shaw but was put ont forward square. Hit the post and collingwood won. Shocking mistake by the ump...no forgiving him and he should never ump again

Shouldn't excuse the umpires mistake though.

Infact the umpiring for the entire game was woeful.

This holding the ball thing is ridiculous - perhaps the umpires have been instructed to do it this way to take the focus of the hands in the back rule. Two wrongs make a right according to the AFL.

Still, if you can't kick a goal from 15m out straight in front then you don't deserve to win. The angle that he ran into goal looked akward and then the kick was very arrogant.

Ok take it for example that it was Melb v Coll and Neitz with the ball. He hits the post. Surely u would be fuming and there is NO excuse. Doesent take rocket science to realise if ur on the 50 metre line and 50 then its on gopal line. After all 50 - 50 = 0 doesent it?

I'm not saying that the umpiring decision was correct - I do agree that he should have been on the goal line. However, if you can't kick a goal from 10m out then you get no sympathy from me.

And with the hands in the back rule, how come only ever give it to full-forwards and never to backmen? Also, notice that some forwards will give up on the final couple of steps when making a lead, so that the backman crashes into him on momentum and then he falls forward so he gets the free kick. I saw Gehrig do this a few times on Friday night & Fevola milked that technique dry during the preseason.

What aload of hogwash about the Kangas.

They got a soft 50 metre penalty that put them 15 metres out and they could not kick the goal.

Shannon Grant. What an embarrassment. Hang your head in shame.

The distance of the penalty should have been made redundant by kicking the most obvious of goals.

What a joke.

I disagree... the penalty should have been on the goal line...almost imposible to miss... Grant should never have had the opportunity to miss.. should have been a gimme !!

you would have different sentiments I'm sure had it been the Dees !!

I'm always up for a good dose of maggot-bashing, but in this case surely Shannon Grant has to bear the burden of costing his team the match. I doubt very much whether Grant is sitting at home right now thinking "I can't believe the white maggot only sent me to kick from 11 metres out rather than two." He'll be livid with himself for costing his team the game and blowing a golden opportunity for a rare 2007 win and a bright spot in what shapes as a disastrous year for the club. Sure, the umpire made a mistake, but his miss was unforgivable - its almost harder to miss from there than to score a goal. If you can do the impossible and hit the post from 11 metres out, he may have slammed the ball into the man on the mark from two paces.

yes Grant kicked the shocker..but is he to blame.. no way.. he should never have been there.

Cut it out Bub.

Shannon Grant a 200 game premiership footballer. Stands 15 metres out. Hardly an angle and hits the post and he is not to blame....Hmmmm.

The Kangas robbed themselves by kicking another 18 behinds earlier in the game.

They had the Pies on toast and let them off on the scoreboard.

Grant just epitomised the Kangas on the day. Wasteful.

It should have been a redundant issue for the following reasons:

1. A 200 game premiership former AA player should never miss a shot from 15 metres. Never

2. How can a team that controlled the game kick 19 behinds and half as many goals? :o

I would say the same thing about MFC. Collingwood should never, repeat never have got a sniff of a win.

Back Neitz $100 to kick from 15 metres every time.

Nothing like blaming the umpire for an error in the final seconds of the game when you have proceeded to stuff up the match over the previous four quarters.

How is it Grants Fault.... he couldnt take his kick from 45m because heath shaw was standing 15 m over the marks... the ump blew his whistle and clearly pointed where shaw HAD to be standing if he was on the original mark.

50-50 = 0 yep

more like 45-50= -5

he should have been takin the kick from the grandstand on no ANGLE at all!

saying they kicked to many points doesnt make a difference... they got robbed by unconsistant umpring.

Umpring is ruining football.... the rules are crap this year and so are the umpires

as for a stat from friday nights game

FREE KICKS RESULTING DIRRECTLY IN GOALS

Melb - 0 Saints -5

At the end of the day there should be no argument about him kicking the post as he should have been given the 50. It was a 50 metre as the ball was not released by Shaw. We should not even be arguing the fact he hit the post. As i said 50 - 50 = 0.

I am 100% that thoes on Collingwoods side would not be thinking the same if Melb had lost the game for the same reason. In fact ill put my life savings on it

If Neitz hit the post from 10m out I would want him dropped until he learnt how to kick straight.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
