MFC Board Election Results

Thank you Old Dee and Better days ahead. It is appreciated.

First  "good luck" and "happens all the time' is tragic.  Luck won't repair this let, alone rolling over acceptance to next time. You didn't hear from that bloke Peter because the Board didn't allow it. To their shame.

Second.  Do you seriously think our Club is financially robust enough to build new centralised facilities.  It's dreaming and a cynical distraction, a tease, a carrot to maintain status quo and screen a woeful financial performance over the last couple of years where this Board has burned through half the Club's members' equity buried under sales of assets and now a gross introduction of a unsupported land valuation.  MFC is not a real estate investment. But it has reverted to that asset to prop it up.  (phew. I can now take a breath!)

And don't be distracted by Covid. It only affected half the year and had $4.5 million Jobkeeper grant to partially cover that hole. Richmond got more than TWICE that. How? AND the full impact of Covid is THIS year and NEXT. That is the year when the Club looses $4.5million pokie income. Has anyone heard of a replacement income stream from this Board? They have already had a couple of years to think about it. If there is one , why hasn't it been widely promoted to Club members?

This Board is failing us, then has the temerity to advocate 'stability' and use dubious restrains on allowing 'fresh' reviews.

You're right old dee to wish me luck BUT it is all of us that needs that luck.  Go Dees.

All valid points Deevotee

Ultimately our success as a club depends upon the footy dept sorting the team out and delivering consistently in finals. Success on the field drives memberships and attracts sponsors. Without sustained on-field success we are never too far from financial difficulties.

It’s a fair point regarding burning through the cash from the Leighoak sale. The continued lack of progress on the home base front is what this board will ultimately be judged on. As I said previously, time is running out for them. The next AGM will be interesting if he board don’t have concrete plans in place to start building the base.

The AGM is Monday BDA. I will be really surprised if any thing has happened. The government has bigger problems than saving a silver tails footy club. It is a public park we are talking about being restricted to the public. If ever that is not going to happen quickly.

I agree its unlikely anything will be announced at this AGM.

I don’t think the government are giving the money just to help out a silver tail club OD. They want to pump money into construction and infrastructure and this is a good way to do it. However, government imperatives can change on a whim. If we don’t get this project off the ground soon we could miss out.

The board will be held accountable for lack of headway on the home base if there’s no progress in the next 12 months.  My impressions of Bartlett are positive in the main. He stays out of the limelight, as presidents should. When he did speak this year it was to give the footy dept a spray after the Port capitulation. I think his tone was on the money. Most Dees fans agreed 100% with his sentiments. He has stuck his head out regarding having definitive plans for the home base in the near future. If he tries to row back and make excuses should progress not be made this year that’s when I’ll withdraw support.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

The Demons put four quarters of hard contested, fast running and high pressure football to knock off the ladder leaders and early premiership contenders the Gold Suns by 20 points at the MCG on Easter Sunday.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
