Guys,

I am as happy as most on this board that the club has picked up some players, both young and old, over the preseason who appear to be pretty good value. I hate to be a party pooper and don't mind people getting excited about this. However, I will provide a note of caution and say that we need to take a step back and realize that the acquisition of these blokes are means, not an end. If the era 2008 to 2011 taught us anything, it is that we shouldn't put the cart before the horse. The younger blokes have plenty of potential but as I have mentioned on this board, you should look up Ron Barassi's quote about potential. Developing a quality club environment is the important thing going forward. I am not going to wheel out the tired old cliches about 'Swans culture'. The club needs to develop a distinctive culture that might borrow from other sources but one that is uniquely it's own.

All that is true, but history is equally littered with teams that make rapid improvement with the right coaching, development and mix of fresh talent, i.e. Hawthorn 2005-2007; Collingwood during the same period.

I like the look of the list and think 8-10 wins is quite realistic.

That is the point of my post Ben. What happens with our coaching and development is the thing that will get us success. What happened last time was that the 'Mission Accomplished' banner was hung up just because we got draft picks, not whether they had actually accomplished anything of note on the field.

"Hard" is the key word that keeps coming up.

Hard strong bodies

Hard work ethic

Hard to play against.......

Theres a million lines i could use next ,as as how it would make me feel to see this team cause some havoc!

People are excited by what we have done in the off-season.

That's not a bad thing.

The bad thing would have been to do nothing.

Footy games aren't won in November but who cares if some are prognosticating improvement?

It would hard not to improve...

I think Toumpas and Viney will be value and be exciting, I think our forward line resembles its name now, and I really like the look of Terlich off a back flank.

Shoot me.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
