The tough, relentless Footscray captain Charlie Sutton has just passed away at the age of 88. He was a real Bulldog and was instrumental in Footscray's win in the 1954 GF over the rapidly rising Demons. Incidentally, apart from his own club, the only other AFL club to honour him in the death notices was none other than the mighty Melbourne Football Club.

Consider the old saying, "There is always someone worse off than yourself". Until his death poor old Charlie had been waiting since 1954 for another Bulldog premiership! A long, fruitless wait of 58 years. Let us hope that our turn will come in the not too distant future.

It's really sad that with each passing year the game loses more and more of the colourful figures who made my enjoyment of the game as a kid so delightful.
