With the Geelong v Hawthorn game coming up I've been thinking about defining moments or turning points for football teams and how our (desperately needed) defining moment will (hopefully) come about.

The Geelong 2008 one is a strong example, and I always remember the Lions watching the movie "Predator" together before taking on the seemingly unbeatable Bombers and taking the line "if it bleeds we can kill it" into the game that they subsequently won.

Maybe it's happened and had no effect, maybe it hasn't been allowed to happen yet, but I feel like we NEED this kind of moment.

It needs to be thought through, effective, passionate, direct, and most importantly instigated by a player, but who?

My thought process for this has gone as followed:

Trengove/Grimes - Still to wary of not stepping on more senior toes

Jamar - Just doesn't have the inspirational quality

Garland/Frawley - Don't have the personal intensity for such a task

Moloney/Green/Davey - To wary of not stepping on younger toes

Clark - To fresh in the fold, although does have the qualities needed for such a thing

I could go on, but for mine it would come down to Jones or Rivers.

Not necessarily our 2 best leaders, but both players that are passionate about MFC, have a well paced intensity, well thought out demeanor, and most importantly seem to command the respect of the playing group.

That is my opinion of the who, the what/where is up to them, the when is definitely THIS WEEK.

It's not going to lead us to a premiership, but whatever it is, it may just unite a fractured football club.

There have been many examples of moments, meetings, events etc that have galvanized a playing group and created a unity of purpose which has seen them progress in whatever way they needed to. What I'm talking about is a player from MFC taking the initiative to create/drive such a thing, whatever it may be, cos it's needed more than ever.

Sometimes groups may look each other in the eyes and tell some home truths, but I think that's been done at MFC as a coach driven thing before, what I'm talking about is a player driven, more symbolic thing for the players to remember and share together to create a sense of much needed unity.

It's not that I think he shouldn't do it, it's just that I think he wouldn't do it as he seems the type that would think he was getting ahead of himself.

Announce to the playing group that the way he plays is now the way the rest of them play or they get shown the door. Emphasize it by giving him a 3-year contract and putting him straight in the leadership group.

New ethos boys ... you get your hands dirty or you GTFO!

That's kind of the idea... But these things usually come from the "spiritual leader" of the boys, which is not always the captain...

Those 22 get selected each week.

That's kind of the idea... But these things usually come from the "spiritual leader" of the boys, which is not always the captain...

No one even cared when our captain got flattened yesterday so I would think a fist would barely be raised with such an uninspiring prize as a game for MFC

Whoever it is Stuie it has got to happen fast. Getting games into kids is not an excuse we can hide behind any longer.

Quite often they have pictures of players on the membership cards - I wonder who will be on it next season? Clark and magner?

I literally dont know what to say at the moment . Im sick of getting kicked around . Can anyone see what the coach is trying to do ? ill stick with it and so should everyone but im just looking for something to show me there is light at the end of the tunnell . Supporting unconditionally is getting very hard .
