A question about premiership points

Featured Replies

Ok, ok... this is just a distraction, but I woke up this morning with the burning question in my head, "why is a win worth 4 points and a draw 2 points? Why not 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw?"

This naturally led me to start thinking (dangerous, I know) but an idea that struck me, and one that I actually think could be worth consideration, would be to have a bonus point for teams that win by a margin of 50 points or more; if for no other reason than to see teams playing the game out and minimising the possibility of those annoying junk time goals.

Maybe silly (stupid even), but feel free to discuss if for no other reason than to take a moments respite from the doom and gloom.

SANFL have 2 for win 1 for draw. at least they used to. also calc % as points scored/total game points i.e. always < 100%

but bonus points? dunno, don't think so. but if you did would be better based on percentage margin rather than actual. Make it fairer for diff weather/ground conditions

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
