THE FOOTY RECORD

Featured Replies

Thanks WYL and a beer sounds great!

Dr yeah reprints easy done and still look good. I have a 1959 and 1964 originals so only 4 more to go!

Everyone wanted to be on board our bandwagon in 1987. It was packed like sardines at the western oval in round 22, the crowds grew and grew as the year went on and our momentum built.

Some quality ads on those archives, I have a lot of the records and remember the covers well but theyre all safely locked up in the shed!

So daz you know most of the weg originals change hands for four figure sums, but are hoping someone unaware of this will sell then to you for way under what theyre worth? Good luck with that project. Check out auction results at leski auctions for a true gauge on what the market thinks they are worth.

I have the set of reprints and they look nice.

Yeah DemonDave I am well aware what Leski Auctions and Garden Vale collectables sell them for and anyone else who has access to the internet (which is everybody on this site) can easily find out also. Most of the very old ones change hands for thousands. I am not interested in paying thousands of dollars for posters the reasons being: 1) My salary doesn't allow for it and 2) I just can't justify paying what the "retail" stores are asking. As far as I'm concerned collectables/memorabilia is only worth what someone is willing to pay. As i stated in my original post I am willing to pay decent money this does not mean finding people who have no idea what they are selling and ripping them off blind. The Grandfather and Grandparent sentence is quite simple the posters started in 1954 (56 years ago) and it is quite logical that an elderly (or older then me) person may still have one in a collection from when they were younger. The posters from 1954 - 1966 were never sold to the general public only given to the newsagents to display on the stands, hence why they are so rare.

I own a 1959 and 1964 original weg posters for which I paid decent money for but no where near what Leski's, Gardenvale and co are asking/selling them for.

I agree DemonDave the reprints look nice but nothing like the originals IMO

Yeah sorry daz may have come across a bit too harshly. I collect vintage cigarette cards so only know too well the pitfalls of chasing a rare piece and wanting to pay the right price for it. Sometimes I just bite the bullet and knowingly pay overs based on scarcity.

Good luck on the search!

Just browsing the 87 finals records, amazed by the lack of experience in that team! Flower on 271, Wilson, Icke and Giles over 100, and a lot around 10 games.

1987's great debate. Bring back the GO HOME MEXICANS scoreboard I say.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
